Jamie is a complex individual. She is serious, but she has a sense of humor. Jamie is assertive, but also a little insecure. She has these amazing moments of tenderness, but will remind you she is someone not to mess with! Jamie remembers everything, she is also not one to forget. She isn’t afraid to speak her mind. And she is always doing the unexpected.
One of the things, well one of the many, I appreciate about Jamie is her decisiveness. Jamie is a person who knows what she likes. I personally, like to surround myself with assertive, bold, and unapologetic female figures. Jamie is all of those. So as a person who is never sure if they are making the right decision and not very assertive, you could see why I admire her so much.
I thought I would write up an easy 5 ways to be cool like Jamie.
1.) Find your passion!
Jamie, as we all know, loves boots, construction, walking on Young’s Hill, and flipping through her books!
2.) Never apologize.
Jamie isn’t afraid to tell someone they have stepped out of line. Don’t be afraid to share how you are feeling, but maybe out of for respect social norms, use words instead of projectiles ;). Also never apologize for being yourself, Jamie wouldn’t.
3.) Face you fears.
Jamie is always finding ways to push herself!
4.) Don’t forget to do your cardio.
Jamie is probably the toughest fitness instructor I have ever had. No excuses in her gym! If you want to be Jamie’s friend, you got to keep up!
5.) Always do what people won’t expect.
Jamie loves to surprise us. If you feel like wearing a scarf, do it! If you feel like randomly flipping upside down like a bat, do it! If you feel like putting your head in a box, why not! Or in today’s case if you just feel like being silly and laying on some firehose while your caregiver jumps up at you, she says do it!
Here is Jamie laying on some firehose!
She would lay on it and then have me jump as high as I could to reach her.
Jamie doesn’t let anything hold her back in life and you shouldn’t either.
she is the centerpiece of enigma…….
I love this post Katelyn. I love that Jamie is always looking for new fun things to do, or maybe more accurately, have you do and that you’re always willing to go the extra mile or ten, simply to give her the satisfaction. For a smart chimp, with leadership abilities like Jamie, it must be balm to her soul to have the opportunity to exert some control over her life… as well as the lives of everyone else of course.
I also love the story of Jamie’s first walks around the hill in the darkness. What a brave and adventurous being she is.
Awesome post. I would like to see one done on each resident.
Thank Kelsi for the beautiful blog about Jamie. They definitely love their caretakers and you are greatly appreciated.
Cheers!
Complex is a word that could have been created just to describe Jamie indeed! What a great photo of her modelling her boots, and all the other ones too. I find it incredible still, that all 10 of them not only survived their previous life but have the remarkable personalities they do. How did Jamie get to be boss when they were all separated for so long? Was it a few fights or just that steely stare of hers?
As I read this wonderful post, Katy Perry is performing in the background in celebration of our new president, and I think she might be singing about Jamie…’Cause Baby you’re a firework !
Wow! What a post! And what a marvelously unique individual Jamie is. I love this chimp woman with all my heart. Thanks for including all the photos and links Kelsi, it was like a little walk down memory lane. Look at her wearing those boots! Oh Jamie. Some of the older posts were so perfect in defining what makes Jamie Jamie. All the reasons Diana loves Jamie (sigh), and the post where Jamie goes out on the after-dark-night-time-trust-trek around Young’s Hill — that was one of my very favorite Jamie posts!! Rereading it tonight was just as exhilarating as the first time I read it.
I will try to follow these Five Be Cool Like Jamie rules but I know I can never, ever, be as cool as Jamie. For that matter, you are amazingly cool too and I know I can never be as cool as you either. No wonder you and Jamie are such close friends, if you feel you are not quite like Jamie you clearly must compliment each other! I truly enjoy your posts about Jamie.
This post was the cherry on the top of a perfect day. : )
Thanks, Kelsi, for a celebration of The Boss! I love the links to old blog posts as they help me catch up on reading the old ones little by little.
Love that the color of the scarf matches Jamie’s freckles! That was a good choice!
PS….sometimes my trainer asks for updates on the chimps (she’s running a business and adopted a baby-who’s now 4-so she doesn’t follow herself). She enjoyed hearing about Honey B fighting off the chow thief (say that 5 times fast) with a scooter!
