Extra Helpings

November 5, 2015 by Elizabeth

After we serve a meal to the chimpanzees, there’s usually a few pieces of food on the ground that have dropped on the human side of the caging. The meal server typically leaves the food where it is, and the chimps will go find tools to use to pull it closer, or they’ll grab the attention of a caregiver and “ask” for the food by pointing to it.

Today Anna served the chimps a lunch of broccoli, kale, and bell peppers in the greenhouse. I went out shortly after the meal to see what everyone was up to, and Burrito immediately swung down from the platform where he was finishing his chow, and pointed out some kale and broccoli that had fallen on my side of the caging. After a quick scan for boss Jamie (she’ll occasionally pull rank when we try to offer food to the other chimps), I picked up the dropped food and gave it to a very grateful Burrito.

Peace, love, Foxie.

November 4, 2015 by Katelyn

Beautiful Foxie at peace in a moment filled with the warmth of the sun on a cold autumn day. This makes my heart happy.

Happy Birthday, Ardy!

November 4, 2015 by Katelyn

Today’s day of sanctuary was sponsored by the chimpanzees’ wonderful friends, Tracy Headley and Bruce Clifton, in honor of Tracy’s aunt, Ardith Porter, on her birthday. Tracy and Bruce do so much to help ensure that the chimpanzees live the best lives possible here in their sanctuary home and are a very special part of our family. Tracy shared this sweet message about today:

“Bruce and I are sponsoring today in honor of my aunt Ardy. She said the only present she wanted from us was a donation to the chimps.”

Tracy and Bruce, thank you so much for always holding the chimps in your minds and hearts and for including them in your family celebration. We are so grateful to have you in the world!

And Ardy, thank you so much for sharing your special day with the chimpanzees! We wish you the happiest of days full of love and joy. Happy Birthday pant-hoots from all of us here at CSNW!

Jody is the best at knowing how to enjoy every moment:

Unseen photos from Halloween

November 3, 2015 by Anna

Diana made this pretty spectacular video blog post last Saturday for Jamieween. In addition to the video, I thought everyone might enjoy these photos of Burrito doing what he does best at a Halloween party, eating! Volunteer Patti hollowed out small pumpkins and filled them with a lettuce, grape, and clementine salad. It’s always exciting when you get to eat your bowl!

Negra Falling Asleep

November 2, 2015 by Elizabeth

Sometimes a nap under a soft blanket in front of a sunny window is all you need.

The Aftermath

November 1, 2015 by Whitney

From the looks of the greenhouse and playroom this morning, the Cle Elum Seven had a rocking Jamieween! Everyone seems a little sleepy today and many of the chimpanzees have spent the day resting in the warm chimp house.

Burrito:

Jamie, probably the least sleepy, after 4.5 walks around Young’s Hill:

Negra:

Jamie, Burrito and I went for a walk earlier this afternoon and I was able to snap some pictures of Missy gathering a bamboo snack (Annie is in the background):

Missy (left) and Annie (right) enjoying the view from Young’s Hill:

Foxie and Jody have been tucked away for most of the day so I was not able to get any pictures of them, but I can tell you that they look ever so cozy!
