Washer and Dryer

August 22, 2008 by Diana

Thank you all so much for taking it upon yourselves to raise funds for a new industrial washer and dryer set for all of the blankets, sheets, and clothes that we wash for the chimpanzees each day! You asked for it, here is a photo of our current washer and dryer – both were donated before the building was even complete. We’ve been impressed with how they’ve held up thus far. Doing constant loads of laundry could certainly soon take it’s toll any day on this old pair.

Thanks, Diana. It might help us all with this project to use this spot for dissussion around this issue. This way we will know what we are all doing. Pam got some specs together from Maytag. I am gathering some from Home Depot today. Then we will let the staff decide which is best for the sanctuary needs. Then we will know where we are price-wise. Let’s keep each other posted. Great minds make great things! Even in the washer dryer arena!

You might want to check out this site for the washer/dryer. They have commercial washer/dryers for Veterinary Clinics, Athletic Facilities, Fire Departments, etc. (http://www.continentalgirbau.com/findmyindustry)

Thanks, Tamela, I will do it straight away.

I think a commercial W/D is the best way to go. They are more expensive but I think with the amount of laundry that is being done each day it would prove to a good investment in the long run. There are a few company’s if you search engine “Commercial Laundry Equipment”.
Many of these are very enviormental with low water/soap use. We could always get the funds together for the washer first and then work on the dryer monies.

Do you know about these, Denice? Do you have some recommendations on which to choose. To be honest I don’t always know what I am looking at when choosing appliances.

    No recommendations on brand names.
It’s just been my experiance that most of the time “bigger is better” even if you don’t “think” you will use it or need it. It really depends on the amount of loads and poundage they are doing on a daily basis. I also think that new is better as they usually come with very good warranties which is a good thing in the Upper County.
More home work is needed before a decision is made.

OK, thanks Denice. Several of us have been doing research and we are sending specs through to Diana, JB and Sarah. They know best what they need and so we will let them decide. Then we will go for getting the funds we need. Talking to Diana today I hear we have about $800 toward the w/d so that is a great start and still a little ways to go. Thanks to everyone.

Hi Margaret and Karen! I am a big fan of advertising….get the word out and the more money we can raise! I was wondering if it would be okay if I post an ad on craigslist for donations to the sancuary for the washer/dryer. The number 1 place to advertise is the internet and Craiglist is the place to advertise….what do you think?????? Let me know and I can post the ad!

Sounds good to me, Shelly……..JB do you have any concern about advertising on Craig’s list? I think where ever we can get donations from the better. However, just run it by JB in case there is a concern that I don’t know about. This blog has lept into life!! I LOVE it.

By the way, congratulations on heading toward being vegan Shelly. We have been vege/vegan for 30 years. It does not make a lot of sense to us to work for animals while eating other ones. PeTA has a website that helps with becoming vege. Veganism also addresses other things such as clothing, footwear, animals in entertainment, product testing etc. Good for you, Shelly. You rock!

I received my vegan packet and where/what to and not to buy/eat/use from PETA yesterday!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I also sent quite the letter to Pamela Anderson regarding the CSNW thru Ingrids myspace, I know she loves to help animals, Peta #1, hopefully she will respond by visiting the blog….never hurts to try!! I am always sending out letters and usually I do get a response!!! Hope to see Pam here someday!!!! I looked at Craigslist last night for a couple hours and I think it might work, who knows if we can get some donations what the heck and also spread the word about the CSNW!

    Has anyone checked into: http://www.blackhorselaundryequipment.com/services.html
They are very conveniently located in Ellenburg. Perhaps they would like to offer a discount since they are so close to the sanctuary.

I was just wondering how we are doing with the washer & dryer. Are we getting close to raising enough funds to purchase them?
