Tune in tonight

September 4, 2012 by Sarah

Eric Jensen and Eric Johnson won an Emmy for their story about the chimps’ release onto Young’s Hill last year, and we were happy to have them back today to film a story about the Taylor Bridge Fire and our recovery. Tune in tonight at 5pm to KOMO 4 if you’re local to the Seattle area, or check KomoNews.com later this evening for the full story. We’ll post the link when we have it.

And while you’re waiting, wouldn’t you just love to know what Foxie was thinking when I snapped this picture earlier today? We often get asked to interpret what the chimps might be thinking, and that’s generally an impossible task. But whenever I see Foxie looking at her troll dolls, especially a new one, I’m struck by how intense the connection seems.

Happy Birthday Foxie!

August 8, 2012 by Jackie

I’m pretty sure Foxie was in heaven today. We caregivers were too! Boy Scout Troop 336 from Federal Way made it out yesterday and were able to finish the new bridge. It looks amazing! The chimps were pretty excited about it too– more on that tomorrow.

And, we have just $1,398 to go to meet our goal for $36,000 for Foxie’s Birthday! It’s been an exciting day for everyone! Thanks so much to everyone who’s donated so far and please keep sharing the information with your friends! The day’s not over yet!! Click here to learn more.

As usual, Foxie has been in a super goofy playful mood all day… how could you not be when you are surrounded by all your favorite things?! Thanks so much to everyone who has been tirelessly collecting troll dolls and Dora the Explorer dolls for the big day! I’m pretty sure it was the best day yet for Ms. Foxie. 🙂

Roslyn Troll and Doggie Olympics

July 22, 2012 by Diana

The weather was great. The competition was fierce. The times were good.

Supporter Monica B. found the BEST EVER mascot for the Roslyn Olympics. Meet Stanley the Troll Dog:

New moves

June 11, 2012 by Elizabeth

After several days of rain and wind and gloom, we finally have a perfect day here at the sanctuary. All of the windows are open to let in fresh air, and the chimpanzees are in great moods. This video shows part of a longer play session that took place this morning in the playroom. My favorite part is Foxie’s new move.

Team Dora or Team Troll?

June 2, 2012 by Diana

Foxie’s new love of Dora the Explorer continues, but that doesn’t mean she’s dropped troll dolls out of her life.

She spent some time with a Dora and a troll doll and a mirror today:

Foxie hold mirror and troll doll

Foxie hold troll and dora

Foxie's hand and foot with Dora

Foxie's hand holding troll doll

A sure sign of Foxie’s contentment is when she rubs her toes together, like in the photo below and in this video from a couple of years ago. If you’re wondering what the powdery stuff on Foxie’s feet is – it’s pollen. The pollen has been blowing off the trees like snow all week!

Foxie’s tongue is famous

May 24, 2012 by Debbie

If you’ve liked us on Facebook, you’ve probably seen some posts recently about Foxie’s reaction to the new GoPro camera in news articles around the world. Today, the article was posted on Huffington Post. (Click the link to go to the article).

Just to correct a misunderstanding—Foxie does still love trolls and other dolls (like Dora!) but she is not still carrying around Trixie, her original troll. She will sometimes find a troll or doll that she likes enough to carry around for a few days, but not much longer than that. (Also, as many of you know, the chimps were rescued close to four years ago—not just last year like that article says. However, it was just last year that they were given access to a 2-acre habitat of relative freedom).

In this picture, Foxie’s got her tongue out, and both a troll and Dora doll in her hand.

A colorful, crunchy lunch

May 23, 2012 by Jackie

The chimps had what only could be described as a gorgeous lunch in the greenhouse today– mini bell peppers, carrots, rhubarb and red grapefruit. Not only was it delicious, but it was colorful too.

Annie and her mini bell peppers:

The rhubarb came from volunteer Renee’s garden. She brought it out yesterday when she came out to help me in the chimps’ garden (Thanks, Renee!). I’ve never thought the chimps liked rhubarb all that much, but they seemed to enjoy it today. Here’s Missy munching on hers:

Annie:

Foxie was especially content with lunch. She kicked back with a couple of carrots

and you know you’ve done good when you catch her rubbing her troll’s belly.
