Be mine, Nutmeg

February 10, 2024 by Sabrina

Today we celebrate Nutmeg’s 9th Birthday! He came here to CSNW with his mom Betsy, along with their friends Honey and Meredith from a sanctuary in California. Nutmeg is a lucky guy since he has been able to live his entire life in sanctuary!

Here at CSNW Nutmeg likes to spend his day with his bovine family eating from the apple trees scattered around the property, getting head scratched from his human friends and enjoying his cob and applesauce for a treat!

You can read more about Nutmeg here!  Nutmeg is blessed to have two Bovine Buddies, Monica and Jackie, but if you are interested in joining them you can find information about the buddy program here!

Catching Up With the Nine

February 3, 2024 by Sabrina

With all the snow and sleet as well as Honey B recovering, the group of nine haven’t been able to get out on the Bray. Today all that changed, after breakfast and some relaxation while caregivers cleaned, the group got outside at lunch time to enjoy the sunshine we’re having right now! Enjoy today’s video of the nine going back out on the Bray!

Joyous Moments with Missy

January 26, 2024 by Sabrina

Regular readers of our blog are well aware that Missy is a quintessential chimpanzee who cherishes her bond with Annie and her group mates and also engages, on rare occasions, in brief playful interactions with her caregivers. Since I have met her it is uncommon to witness Missy taking an interest in the variety of enrichment objects we provide to the chimps on a daily basis. However, this week presented a delightful surprise: I observed Missy taking time to herself to play with a new Jolly Ball, a gift from volunteer caregiver Krissy intended for Burrito. Although Missy’s play session with the Jolly Ball was short lived, it was a joyous moment to be able to witness and capture on video for all of you to enjoy as well!

Playtime with Foxie, Neggie and Burrito

December 30, 2023 by Sabrina

It was a mellow day in the chimp house today. On Jamie’s side of the building everyone was in a playful mood, whether they had a friend or had to make their own fun. As you’ll see in today’s video, Bubba had no problem making his own fun!

Meanwhile, on Cy’s side it was naps and quiet walks on the Bray with a friend.

Cy and Rayne enjoy a quiet nap in their nests after a long morning of looking through some magazines and books:

Comfort & Joy: Dragon Blanket Thanks!

December 16, 2023 by Sabrina

We have received a wearable “dragon”** blanket from the Comfort & Joy auction! We put it in with Cy’s group today along with some of their lunch forage. After Lucky added it to her blanket car and drove around with it for awhile, it has now made it’s way into Dora’s nest for the night.

**We do know this blanket was probably meant to be a dinosaur and not a dragon, but Diana did not know the difference until just recently and we want to be sensitive to her feelings during this time of learning.

Special thanks to Merle R. for purchasing the wearable dragon/dinosaur blanket for the chimps!

Plus a bonus of Rayne.. just because..

Cy & Terry on Duty

November 25, 2023 by Sabrina

It was a busy day in the chimp house today and our new maintenance worker, Jake, was installing steps on a slope to make our perimeter checks a little less hazardous. You see…some of us are accident prone and tend to fall in the mud and snow a lot (*ahem* Jenna). In the afternoon JB had to go into town to run some of his own errands so Cy and Terry took over supervising Jake until dinner time. I was only able to capture some photos of them coming back from their work day to get a well earned meal, and then captured video of Cy unwinding from his long work day with a little YouTube time.

Cy returning from a long afternoon managing the employees

Terry had a busy day as Assistant to the Supervising Manager

Bonus photos of Terry enjoying a nice paper wadge to start his day off right!
