Dora and The Multipurpose Box

February 8, 2022 by Chad de Bree

We all know that Gordo has an affinity for his boxes. He loves to sit in them, use them as a table, even last night as I served him dinner, I watched him carefully put every slice of food delicately into his box.

Yesterday, we put in a new type of box into Gordo’s group’s enclosures. It is a wider, flatter box, which we thought Gordo would love. Much to our surprised, we haven’t seen him utilize it and keep to his usual. Rayne and Terry have taken turns sitting or nesting in it.

Dora, however, has found this box to suite all her needs.

First, it was the perfect place to lounge around.

It also made a great area to eat dinner.

As well to enjoy her evening enrichment: ice eggs.

When I arrived this morning, she had converted her box into a fort with the simple addition of another box.

Update:

I just walked back there and Cy has decided this would make his perfect reading nook.

In Honor and Memory of Pat Divish

January 29, 2022 by Chad de Bree

Today was sponsored by Tobin in honor of Pat Divish!

I am sponsoring this day of sanctuary in honor and memory of Patricia Divish. January 29th would have been her birthday. Those of us with the good fortune to have known her will long treasure our memories of her: her quick with, her wry humor, her laughter, the wealth of her personality.

As can be said for today’s girl at the sanctuary, Rayne, one experienced a sense of benevolence in the presence of Pat Divish. (“What?!,” I can hear her exclaiming in mock-umbrage. “You’ve gone on the internet and compared me to a chimp?!”). Given the generosity of her spirit, I am certain that she would have approved of the mission of this sanctuary.”

Thank you so much Tobin for honoring your friend this way! We know how much you love the residents here and are truly honored by all you support. Today we will celebrate in honor of both Pat and Rayne’s birthdays in her honor!

Be sure to check back a little later for Rayne’s birthday celebration!

Sweet, beautiful Jody!

Happy Birthday, Rustin!

January 28, 2022 by Chad de Bree

Jane Fantoni sponsored this day of sanctuary in honor of her son, Rustin McCullum’s birthday!

Happy birthday to my son Rustin McCullum. You bring me so much more joy than you’ll every know. It’s been a true delight to watch you follow your dreams with so much passion, tenacity, and boldness, including amazing creativity. I see your love for those around you, and endless dedication to good works, and I truly hope just as much love and good blessings come back to you this year many times over. Enjoy your special day! Love, Mom”

Rustin has been a huge help in supporting the sanctuary with non-fungible token (NFT) donations through his organization the Infinite Chimp Project.

Rustin, all of here are sending pant hoots your way in honor of your birthday! We hope your day is full of love, laughter, and happiness!

And thank you Jane for honoring Rustin’s big day by sponsoring the chimpanzees’ day!

In Memory of Doreen

January 23, 2022 by Chad de Bree

This day of sanctuary was sponsored by Donna Hughes in memory of her twin sister and fellow dedicated supporter of Chimpanzee Sanctuary Northwest, Doreen.

“I’d like to Sponsor this Day in what would have been our birthday, in memory of Doreen. It’s impossible to believe I have missed 3 shared birthdays with you: My Twin, My Sister, My Friend, My Buddy. I’ve said it before: you are missed every second, of every minute, of every hour, of every day. NYC certainly misses your being. I know the heavens are wittier and filled with more energy than before you got there. I’m certain that you are sitting there with Athena, Wyle and Noelle. Your love of animals made your life. Sammy so misses sitting on your lap …of course, I have taken on that role now. I know that we had many adventures, many trips, many events – and I know that your visit to Chimpanzee Sanctuary NW to visit Foxie and Friends (humans included!) was one of the highlights of your life. You would be so pleased to see how the sanctuary has continued to grow and to help animals. I know how important that was to you. I will toast you with that glass of champagne we always had on January 23rd. I know how much CSNW meant to you! Until we meet again, Don & Sammy”

We are delighted to celebrate today in honor of Doreen. Thank you so much, Donna, for allowing us to be a part of this truly special day. Happy Birthday to you both, our good friends! We hope you find magic and joyful memories in the most likely, and unlikely, of places today. We are sure Doreen would be thrilled to share this day with the chimpanzees! Please give Samantha Cat a big hug and few pets from us!

We Meet Again

January 18, 2022 by Chad de Bree

There were a lot of familiar meetings today.

First, Honey B and Lucky had a meeting with each other. Though things started off slow when they came together, they did eventually did start playing.

As some of you know, Honey B can be dialed to 11 when she plays, Lucky is usually at a 7 on a good day.

All-in-all, their meeting was pretty positive and they seemed to enjoy each others company.

On the other side of the building, the weather finally provided us a break to be able to shovel parts of Young’s Hill. After a few hours of digging out Young’s Hill from the Snowmageddon snowfall by Sam, Anna, Diana, and J.B., Jamie and her group were finally able to go out onto Young’s Hill!

Missy in Neggie’s Cabin.
Jody seemingly happy with her harvest of snowy treats.
Annie bipedally walking through one of the pathways.
Burrito taking in the sights of Young’s Hill.

Here are some bonus photos from the day:
