Keeping your friends company

January 23, 2013 by Jackie

One of my favorite things about the Cle Elum Seven is how almost everyone is really good friends. We tend to focus on BFF’s Annie and Missy a lot because they are pretty much inseparable, but there are lots of other people that seem to be pretty close, based on the amount of time they play with one another, groom, or have other interactions. If I had to guess based on my observations, I would say (aside from the Annie/Missy duo), Missy is good friends with Negra, Foxie and Burrito; Burrito is good friends with Foxie, Negra, and Missy; Negra is good friends with Foxie, Missy, and Burrito; Jamie is good friends with Foxie; and Jody is good friends with Foxie and Negra (I’ve seen a lot of play between Negra and Jody lately!). Annie’s world still revolves around Missy, but she does occasionally play with Foxie and Negra, so I think she would probably call them good friends too. If you haven’t noticed, Ms. Foxie is a popular lady!

Today I caught Foxie being super goofy all by herself (which is really not all that uncommon) but it wasn’t long before someone had to join in.

Interesting how you mention Jamie only once, in relation to Foxie. Is that because she’s the leader? Because she can occupy herself with her own projects? ???

Jamie tends to be more human-focused, so we don’t see her playing with the other chimps as much, but Foxie can almost always get Jamie in a playful mood!

Thanks Jackie. I also assume that Jamie is busy making her plans to take over the world. 🙂 And who couldn’t Foxie get into a playful mood?! 🙂

Yes, I would agree, Amy! No time for silliness when you’ve got much bigger things on your plate. 🙂

I think the Annie & Missy duo will always be my favorite; however, I worry about Annie. It concerns me to think what might happen to Annie and how she would cope if we lost Missy. I hope in time she will develop stronger relationships with the other chimps.

    Love the silly cage climbing!

I don’t know the story of how these 7 chimps all raised in individual cages managed to become a social group with so many good relationships. How did you do it? Was there fear and conflict at first or did they bond right away?

The chimps were housed together for the last several years in the lab, so thankfully we didn’t have to do introductions.

Yes, it would seem that Foxie is very popular. I know she is with me, and many other followers. Who could resist that beautiful face and personality. All the chimps are fantastic, but Foxie has my heart!

Indeed Miss Foxie is one happy, friendly and very popular little chimp person. Bless her sweet little heart. Like Ivy says, how can you resist that beautiful face and personality..

Based on that Ms. Foxie could be cast in the next “SpiderChimp” movie… 🙂
