When Foxie first came to the sanctuary, she was pretty shy. It was clear she did not want any of the toys, blankets and other objects that we gave the chimpanzees every day. Then, she adopted a troll doll, which we named Trixie.
That’s when the troll soap opera began. At first, Foxie was very protective of her dolls and did not want anyone else to touch them. She’s come a long way.
In the video below, she is teasing Jamie with a game of keep-away. Foxie still has her limits, though, when it comes to her prized possessions. And perhaps Jamie has softened up a bit when it comes to Foxie and her dolls.
It’s a longer video than normal, but it will make a bad day good and a good day better, so take a break for a few minutes and watch it.
Give me a 5 minute video anytime, I loved it. How long did this play session actually last? It’s nice that Jamie recognized that Foxie was getting upset because she had her troll doll and returned it to her. I have to admit Jamie was absolutely wonderful when Foxie got a hold of her lip, OUCH! I can’t help but love these chimpanzees.
Longer videos…………….good!! I used to think that there was nothing cuter than watching puppies play (apologies to those of you that have kids!), but this by far is the funnest play session I’ve ever seen! I scrunched my face up the whole time that Foxie had Jamie’s lip but laughed at the same time.
Chimp laughter makes me happy every time. Thx Diana for sharing this with us!!
I love the longer video! The sound of chimp laughter never fails to bring my smile to my face. When Foxie had Jamie’s lip it warmed my heart at the trust between them. I saw this behavior at Chimp Eden and the exchange was always fascinating. Seeing these chimps so happy and content after all they have gone through is truly the best kind of warm fuzzy you can feel. Thanks, Diana.
Great Video! My cheeks cramped up from all the smiling, while watching them play. Seeing Jamie and Foxie have so much fun is truly beautiful, after knowing what they went thru before coming to the sanctuary.
Love these longer videos…more, more!!! It’s so heartwarming to see these two play and have fun. I laughed right along with them. How the heck does that boot stay put in Jamies pelvic pocket??
I think that’s the biggest play face I’ve seen on Jamie ever. It’s nice to see the gentler side of Jamie.
I found this video so moving for some reason. I guess it was when Jamie gave Foxie the troll at the end.
One of my favorite parts of movies is when they run outtakes during or after the credits. Love the bits you’re tacking on to the end!!
We ove this one completely! Videos are never too long. 🙂 Thank you so much for the care and attention you give to the blog.
Before CSNW videos and education about chimps: Gee look at that cute chimp smiling on that birthday card, oh can you go in and pet those chimps? Those chimps look like they are fighting how come someone isn’t stopping that, aren’t bananas chimps favorite food?
After: That’s a play face, that’s a fear grin, that’s a food grunt, that’s a laugh, that’s a display, their playing not fighting. No thank you I would not go inside with chimps and anyone who does is crazy, Hallmark can you please stop showing chimps fear grinning on your greeting cards/inviations. No the chimp I adopted does not live with me, if they were in my house I would be outside. How do give a proper chimp greeting and the list goes on…. CSNW is a good teacher
Wow. Well said Debbie.
…and one of my favorite videos ever. I love during tug-o-war when Foxie tries using her body to twist the ribbon away. Such a smartie.
Candy. The total amount of time was probably around 25 minutes. During play, chimps often stop for short periods of time, do or pretend to do something else, then start up again.
You’ll notice this is one of the few videos where you can hear me, and I think J.B. at one point, laughing. We couldn’t help it 🙂
I agree with everyone, videos of the 7 can never be too long.
I’m “love” sighing. Sighing that I love the longer video, sighing because I love the good that CSNW is doing for these chimps, sighing because I love what bloggers post, sighing because these chimps have a happier life, sighing because I’m lucky enough to be a volunteer in the chimp house. I’ll be there on Mother’s day with my daughter….sighing!!
That was pretty gutsy for Foxie to “bite” Jaime’s lip. It was also great to see Jamie trust Foxie.
I’m impressed with them both. I’ve gotten the impression that Foxie is pretty skittish so successful play with the much higher ranking Jaime is a big step.
I’ve gotten the impression that Jamie has always been kind of intense and high-maintenence that doesn’t have time to play. I was so happy to see her lighten up and play and then be nice to Foxie when she wanted to troll.
Seeing Foxie with the trolls makes me wish you could rescue a 1-year old chimp and have Foxie adopt him or her so her mothering skills can truely shine through. I have a feeling if that happens, the six ladies would spoil that baby rotten!
Like a lot of senior citizens I have trouble sleeping all night, so every night I go to your blog for news of the “seven”. I love the longer video tho’ I became somewhat concerned about the lip biting but seeing the trust between those gals is awesome. This Mother’s day my daughter, Julie Harding, and granddaughter, “little Sarah” Harding, will spend time volunteering for you. If I were a little more physically capable I would be with them but I will spend time reading your Blog.
Thank you for the care you are giving these lucky seven. If only more “humans” could reach out to the many desperate experimental labs sites how much more “HUMAN’ we might become
Sincere thanks Barbara Boekholt.
What a wonderful video! Thanks Diana.
Finally! A full length feature film. LOVE IT! I can never get enough.
That was the quickest 5 minutes I’ve ever sat through! Lots of chimp laughter, play face, love bites, playful slaps and pelvic pockets! LOL! It was a joy to watch. Thank you, Diana!
This made me so unbelievably happy to watch!
