Negra and Jody play

August 30, 2012 by Debbie

Negra and Jody are two out of our seven residents that are more relaxers and not as much rough-and-tumble players, like Foxie or Missy. So, it’s a nice treat getting to see them playing with anyone—and even more so with each other!

Totally funny how Negra kept putting the blanket back in her mouth and using her mouth for the tug-of-war instead of using her hands. That would hurt I’d think. Love’n the head butts Jodi put on Negra.

    Cute, cute, and cuter!!

Debbie, thank you for capturing these moments–lovely. It looked like Negra was using her mouth to hold onto the blanket so she could brace herself with her arms and legs. Look forward to seeing more videos of these two.

    I hear that chimp laugher!

It’s amazing how strong their jaws and teeth are (strong enough to play tug of war with) and yet when we see them biting each other in play (such as the previous photos of Burrito playing) they are so gentle with each other. Do they ever get a bit too rambunctious and inadvertently bite a little to hard?

Chimps bite in play, but they also bite aggressively. I haven’t seen them accidentally bite too hard during play, but I suppose it could happen. Sometimes when they bite aggressively it can end in a small bite wound, but nothing that a couple days of intense grooming can’t solve 🙂 Another reason we’d never want to be in the same area as a full-grown chimp: even their play bites would easily hurt us! They have tougher skin and denser bones so they can take a bite from each other a lot better than we could.

Wow, Negras ability to hold the blanky in her mouth, by her strong teeth, certainly shows how strong she is. Wonderful to see Jody and Negra engaged in to playing.
