Big Day to GiveBig!

May 5, 2026 by Chad de Bree

Have you heard the news?

Cy looking at a magazine while George (and Lucky who is behind Cy’s magazine) interact with caregiver Katelyn and some guests.

Today is the last day for GiveBIG! GiveBIG is an annual fundraising event here in Washington State when individuals and organizations invest their community by donating to their local Washington-based nonprofit. At the time of this writing, we are currently hovering around 75% of our $50,000 goal! We are so close! But there is still time! Donors have until midnight (PST) to donate to their favorite nonprofit.

I know that $50,000 seems like an impossible task, but every little bit we receive gets us closer to our goal. Donations directly help the caregivers provide the upmost care to the chimpanzees and cattle. Your donations help pay for things such as food, puzzles, treats, care medical, new enrichment toys, parties for the chimps (George’s 1 year CSNW anniversary is coming up!), the support building for the staff to diligently work in, and so much more!

We need your support now more than ever. As mentioned before, we are going to celebrate George’s 1 year anniversary here. That entire time felt like a flurry of activity that it feels like a blur. It was almost like one day we had 15 chimps and BAM! Sixteen chimpanzees were now residing at the sanctuary. Since that time it has been such a heartwarming thrill watching George settle into no only his new home, but also new family! I still get a little teary-eyed when watching him on the Bray with Cy, Gordo, Rayne, Terry, and Lucky. Just knowing just under a year ago, George was living by himself in a concrete and chain-linked fence. Now George is thriving enjoy his time outdoors or spending it playing or being groomed by one of the other chimpanzees.

We are also now caring for a chimp with mobility issues. With some slight modifications to some of the enclosures, Negra has been able to move from one area to the other albeit with some issues. She’s able to move around a lot more thanks to some handlebars and firehose, but we feel there is more we can (and probably will) do to help Negra enjoy her favorites spots around the sanctuary. Not to mention the medications she is on to help her continue to enjoy her sanctuary life. Be sure to read this compelling, heartfelt blog Kelsi wrote about Negra a few weeks ago.

Please consider donating to our GiveBIG campaign to help us reach our goal and help us provide the best care we can for 16 chimpanzees and 3 cows.

Oh! And Bruce! Help us support Brucey!

I wish someone could check and see if my donation went to the sanctuary and not some 3rd party. I used the link I got in an email but when I donated my $500 (plus covered the fees) it was a 3rd party site. Is there any way someone can confirm my donation was to the Sanctuary and not some other site?

      Hi Daniel,
I can’t confirm it for you, but the confusion is likely bc it went to the “GiveBig!” page, as it should have. If that’s the case, you’re all set!

Hi Daniel. Good question but no need to worry. I received the same email and I have given towards GiveBig in the past The fundraiser is named GiveBig 2026. The letter states the message is from CSNW and includes a direct link to their site. For your reassurance regarding who the third-party is, scroll to the bottom of the email (below your receipt) and read the famous “fine print”. This offers a clear explanation about who the third party is (Mightycause Charitable Foundation) and why they are involved with this specific fundraising event. The very last line of the fine print also includes a link that goes into the details of who Mightycause is. If my memory serves me correctly, your credit card will note the donation under Mightycause, not Chimpanzee Sanctuary NW. I hope this helps to clear things up.

Ahhh…the fine print…lol. Thanks for that explanation. I dont normally like donating through 3rd party sites but since the email came from the sanctuary I went with it. The donations I’ve made in the past have been directly to CSNW so this was different. I also did not receive a confirmation email acknowledging the donation. Diana saw this post and sent an email this morning confirming CSNW received my donation and the GREAT news of how succeful the fund raising campaign was. So happy that we are taking care of these wonderful chimps and our donations are making a difference in their care and helpiing the staff. Cheers…

Chad, way to go cheering on the final day of giving for WA nonprofits. It’s fun that we can all partake, no matter where we live! CSNW is my favorite organization and I hope you can still accept donations today so you can guarantee reaching $50,000 for your worthy cause. You are so close to your goal! I loved reading the two stories about George and dear Negra on the GiveBig homepage, who could resist?!

Thanks for these fabulous photos. I never pegged Cy to be a Royal Watcher!
