September celebrations!

September 1, 2023 by Katelyn

One day it’s so hot the temperature is downright disrespectful and then right on its heels you wake to the call of Canada geese flying south across a sunrise pink sky. A season between, September tends to be one of our rare milder months, which translates to a joy for the Pacific Northwest chimpanzees (and several of the Pacific Northwest humans). But most importantly, it’s not a time between parties. Is there such a thing?

We begin on Saturday, September 9th, with one of our most important celebrations of the year, our annual gala, HOOT! This year we’ve reimagined things and whether you are able to attend in person or virtually, we’d be thrilled if you could join us for this unique and important event that helps makes so much possible for the chimpanzees. If you haven’t done so yet, please be sure to get your tickets here!

And Happy September birthdays, friends! Meet your fellow birthday month revelers:

On September 10th we will be celebrating sweet, wonderful Annie turning 49!

Beautiful and independent Meredith Cow is turning 8 on September 23rd:

And Mave, in all her wondrous floofiness, is turning 34 on September 25th! You may recall that we used to celebrate Mave’s birthday on May 27th before we recently learned of her real birth date, so she gets two celebrations this year! Obviously!

And it’s always a delight for us to get to share in celebrating the birthdays of the children of our chimpanzee mothers and this month we have two!

Negra’s daughter, Angel, will be celebrating her 33rd birthday on September 4th (photo courtesy of Save the Chimps):

Negra:

And Jody’s daughter, Andrea (the Second), will be turning 33 on September 30th. We are profoundly grateful knowing these two ladies have wonderful sanctuary homes of their own with Save the Chimps in Florida, where they are loved and celebrated just as their mothers are. Beloved Jody:

We are so grateful to you for being here with us and for the opportunity to celebrate you as part of the chimpanzees’ lives – wonderful lives that you make possible.

Happy September. The change in weather is most welcomed. Fall is coming. Today’s photos are a lovely representation of chimps at peace. i look forward to HOOT where I’ll see many CSNW staff, volunteers and blog followers.

I just checked my 2023 CSNW Calendar and Mave’s birthday is not listed, just Annie’s and Meredith’s. I wrote it in so I won’t forget! Happy Birthday Mave, Annie and Meredith!!!!!

Bc at the time they printed the calendars, they still hadn’t discovered her actual birth date, so it’s probably in that calendar as a March birthday.

    Thanks, Katelyn!
Wow, when you see Angel’s bright, tiny, close-set eyes and brow ridge, there’s no doubt she’s Neggie’s baby! And Andrea II got her mom’s elfish ears!
Looking forward to sunflower funflower on dear, sweet Annie’s birthday! That top action shot is worthy of her BFF!
I was thinking of you guys today….I saw that Del’s Lemonade is now making Blueberry flavor….maybe the staff will get another surprise, along with the chimps, soon!

    Happy September! Happy monthly celebrations!

What caught me by surprise were the ages! Beautiful Annie is turning 49?! Love that photo of her swinging across the hill. I hope Missy was watching. But the big surprise was youngster Mave turning a mere 34 and Negra and Jody’s daughters are turning 33. Mave is the age of their daughters! So many years lost to them all. Sigh…..on a lighter note, how fortunate you discovered Mave’s real birthday! Two celebrations for Mave—yay!!! Party on, Mave.

And Meredith turns 8! Alfalfa cupcakes for everyone!

Again, I want to thank you, Katelyn, for always including the chimpanzee children in the birthday celebrations. The photos bringing a big smile to my face, I so enjoy the family resemblances. Andrea the second is almost a mirror image of Jody! The ears, strong eyebrow ridge, close set eyes, white beard, and even the shape of their faces, so similar! It’s beautiful.

So many birthdays!!!! It’s so hard to believe that sweet Annie is going to be 49! Lovely Mave is going to be 34! Beautiful Meredith is going to be 8! Wow!
I also love seeing pictures of their offspring and comparing where they look alike. Angel definitely has Neggie’s features and Andrea definitely has Jody’s.
