To Be Continued

November 25, 2022 by J.B.

I have good news and bad new about the Bray. The good news is that it is about 95% complete. The bad news is that winter came early this year and the remaining 5% will be difficult if not impossible to finish in freezing weather. It’s also a less-than-ideal time to introduce the newest group to the enclosure, so the Bray will likely be opened late winter or early spring. We’re disappointed but looking forward to longer days, warmer weather, and an entire summer of Cy’s group exploring their nearly two-acre habitat.

Here’s a photo I snapped of the lower portion of the Bray during the single week of fall we got to enjoy this year:

With the colder weather upon us, the chimps have taken to basking in the sun from the comfort of their greenhouse enclosures.

That’s a bummer, JB, but I was indeed wondering if they’d even want to deal with the stress of a new space on top of the stress of snow and cold and wet.

Do the things that need to be finished require dealing with wildfire hazard regulations, or will you be able to get right to it in spring?
Also (and I should have noticed this before), do thry seem to bemore comfortable with the feel of grass these days, or are they still avoiding it? That’ll play a big role in Bray exploration, I imagine

We’ll be able to finish things up as soon as it warms up again and they should be going out late winter/early spring. I’d say most of them have gotten more comfortable with the grass and dirt but many still avoid it whenever possible so we’ll do out best to make it so they can get around using boardwalks anbd logs.

        Of course you will!
Well, we’ll look forward to the spring, then! Thanks for the answer, enjoy the rest of the weekend! How’s Benny?

It looks absolutely wonderful out there. We know about the Three and their adventures into the great outdoors….OR NOT! But what about the others in the group….have they ever had access to outdoor areas, and will Willy B be the great hero showing them how it works?? No doubt there will be many surprises yet to come :hushed:

Good things come to those who wait.

I know you and your Bray Team have been doing the impossible and making great strides. I had a funny feeling cold weather and/or snow might delay the grand opening. Nobody is familiar with being outside with the exception of Willy B (sort of!) and heading outside in the cold or snow seems like a nightmare situation for their first attempt.

You gave beyond your best shot. For now, the nine can enjoy the new chute when the weather allows. A great way to ease into the environment.

I can’t wait until spring! That photo is beautiful, look at those trees!

Of course it is disappointing but the introduction will all the more sweeter!! Coming into springtime, a time of fresh renewal will make the Bray opening all the more spectacular! As it is, it looks amazing!!! Well done!
