Jamieween is finally here! Today we celebrated the one and only Jamie’s 44th Birthday, as well as Halloween! Today was full of scarecrows, pumpkins, pomegranates, shrunken apple heads, birthday gifts for Jamie, and much much more! The chimpanzees here had quite the celebration today. Enrichment Coordinator, Chad did such a good job planning all of this for them. A huge thank you to everyone who bought items for today off of our wish list! Everything really added to the celebration today. Also, thank you to all of the care staff who helped get these great videos and photos!
I hope that Jamie and the rest of the chimpanzees here enjoyed themselves today. I know we all enjoyed watching them. Back in the day my time as an intern here only breached the surface of who Jamie is and I’m getting to know her so much better. I’m still leaning some Jamie language, but its a fun ride and it is a privilege to be able to help care for her. She is definitely a special chimpanzee.
Jamie’s group had a 2 part celebration that began in their Greenhouse. Willy B enjoyed time in the Courtyard with his scarecrow while Mave and Honey B celebrated inside. The Lucky Six enjoyed their pumpkins and Halloween bags full of things like nuts and cabbage.

And…….Burrito ended up being the Great Pumpkin Thief this year! As you can see in the video he brought it down from a platform on Young’s Hill, but it rolled away. It ended up rolling into the fence and we had to bring everyone inside so we could get it unstuck. After spot cleaning the seven’s playroom we put it back inside to see who would grab it. Jody really wanted it and tried several times, but Burrito was the winner this year.
Great party set up. You all do a fantastic job to keep the chimps happy. Well done ChimpsNW team and thanks for taking the time to do this great blog.
Wow, Chad! What a huge celebration you set up! I love watching them look through the goodies, just like kids on Christmas morning. And what a new experience for the Lucky Six! Glad Willy B went outside. And good for Burrito getting the pumpkin – twice- witjlh a little help. This is, overall, the best and happiest thing I’ve seen in awhile.
I love the picture of Foxie with her baby on her back, rather sad if you think about it.
Thanks Sam, Chad and the rest for making Jamieween a success, the pictures are great and congratulations to Burrito for scoring the pumpkin this year.
rising to new heights…..lots of creative activities…..hope they sleep-in tomorrow to give y’all a little extra recovery time ……….
Thanks, Sam!
Who is it doing that weird scuttle just before Terry and Cy are at the window?
Gordo, Lucky or Rayne?
Good to see Bubba asserting himself (although Jody wouldn’t have let go of it).
yay! A day when you know they won’t be spitting the liquid at you!
I hope the HCIC enjoyed her apples!
It was Lucky who was moving across the floor like that!
What a happy Jamieween everyone had. You didnt say but did the cows get to partake in the celebration? I was rooting for Burrito, the younster no more! He is coming into his own and it is so wonderful to have gotten to watch from the beginning. Did Jamie get some new boots?
Jamie did get a couple pairs of new boots! One pair has a bunch of stars on them and she requests those often. We did not give the cattle part of the celebration as seem to be pretty picky and won’t eat most things extra we try to give them.
Congratulations, Party Planner Chad. Decorations were great; loved the Shrunkin’ Heads — very clever and creative idea. Every year you out-do yourselves.
The decorations and treats were exceptionally fun and playful. You all set up a perfect celebration. Happy birthday, Jamie!
What a fun day for everyone! I’m glad the weather cooperated. It was nice to see some sunshine. Rayne looked like she was enjoying it.
Happy Birthday Jamie!
What a great video Sam!! It was so much fun seeing how each Chimp enjoyed the celebration. I would say a lot of hard work & creativity went into planning this day. i loved the shrunken apple heads & all of the great pictures. What a celebration!!! Thanks to everyone for making this day a success!
WOW, this is better than watching “it’s the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown”! Sam you did such an awsome job in putting this all together. Your description of the day along with the video made me feel like I was there. Congrats to Chad and the whole team for pullng off what appears to have been the ultimate primate soi·rée.
Wow, what an amazing day! Everyone was so excited, having so much fun! As usual, Chad knocked it out of the park with the decorations – and the shrunken apple heads were awesome!
So many awesome pics and video footage. One of my fave pics is of Jamie admiring her three pomegranates, like she can’t believe her luck, lol. She had an awesome birthday party, for sure. Everyone seemed extra excited and lively, and thoroughly enjoyed the party. Linda, I loved the scuttle/scooch move too, who was it???
Would it be possible to post a version of the video without the sound effect? I love hearing the chimps grunting with excitement, but the sound effect drowns out the chimps’ vocalizations.
Another amazing day at CSNW! The love and devotion from everyone at CSNW is so evident with every food grunt and face filled with excitement. Thank you all for your dedication and commitment to these magnificent people.
Wow! Jamieween 2021 did not disappoint! The shrunken Apple heads were brilliant. I am going to steal that idea! Hysterical. The scarecrows! I forgot about the scarecrows, love that the chimps interact with them. And lucky Willy B has a big one all to himself. Also loved the little burlap cabbage goody bags for everyone.
Thank you care givers one and all for all your hard work in pulling off this big celebration (especially with the runaway pumpkin)! Thank you Chad for being the party planner extraordinaire! Sam, thanks for bringing today to life right before our eyes, especially the great pumpkin heist! After everything Burrito has survived lately he deserved that big rolling Jack-O-Lantern. I was calling out for it to stop as it gained momentum rolling away. I had visions of Jody at the other end with her arms out ready to catch it!
The sunny forage was magnificent. All big veggies to carry. The image of Jamie with 3 big rosy red orbs in her arms and the giant stalk of green sprouts left behind is my favorite photo too. And I noticed Foxie and her doll are the only ones in costume, clearly the doll is “dressed” as Lady Godiva thus putting a modern day twist on the legend.
Happy Jamieween everyone!
the scarecrows and apple heads were my favorite! good job, team!
the amount of pictures was a great look at all the tribe. The staff works so hard and their efforts are enjoyed.
Just, now, admiring an, amazing, “Jaimieween” celebration! Very creative, and, colorful, display, Chad! I loved the, spooky, music accompanying the video. It was an, impressive, array of decorations, enrichment items, food, drink, and, books! Very good idea to have, both, a greenhouse party, and a forage party.
I always wonder how you can make sure that everyone gets their, fair, share?
