National Watermelon Day!

August 3, 2021 by Chad de Bree

Today is National Watermelon Day! A day in which we celebrate that delicious sweet summertime treat. Watermelon is the perfect treat during hot summer days because they are comprised of 92% water and are delectable.

Today, we decided to give the chimpanzee residents some of this delicious fruit for lunch and as an afternoon snack served up on some crushed ice!

Missy eating her lunchtime watermelon.

Cy enjoying his while trying to convince the humans to also play with him.

Negra about to dig in to her watermelon shaved ice.

Mave enjoying her iced treat.

Honey B inspecting her watermelon ice boat…

Before digging in.

Terry snacking on his afternoon snack.

Jamie being served her watermelon boat.

I was able to get that photo, before I was promptly reminded that is wasn’t photo time, but play time.

And as a bonus, a photo I took of Lucky watching me from the other side of the window as I cleaned the Mezzanine today.

many years ago, my Dad called to tell me he had a watermelon tree over in the garden….
what he had, of course, was a 20#+ watermelon growing about 10 feet up in a three sided fork in the branches…

told me later that it ate pretty good…!

I have always loved that story from him……

Funny, I texted a couple of people today asking if they knew it was national watermelon day. They didn’t, but they all had watermelon going on today. They sent me pictures of watermelon in the fridge.

My favorite watermelon memory is from summer camp when I was a kid.

And then of course there’s the summer camp song that goes something like this…

:notes:Just plant a watermelon right on my grave and let the juice (slurp) slip through. Just plant a watermelon right on my grave, that’s all I ask of you.
Now southern fried chicken may taste mighty fine, but nothing taste better than a watermelon rind.
So plant a watermelon right on my grave and let the juice (slurp) slip through. :notes:
      Ta da!!

Thanks Chad for taking me back!
LOVE the pics. Every single one is precious.

Wait. What?! Today is National Watermelon Day?!! Is there anything more scrumptious than watermelon on a summers day? I’m pretty sure Negra agrees with me. That top photo of her made my heart burst. Chad, you are amazing. Thanks for all these photos of everyone enjoying todays special treat.

thanks, Chad! Glad to see that everyone enjoyed themselves!

Will a certain Tiny woman get watermelon bowls for her birthday again?

And Chad, is it my imagination, or is Neggie losing weight?
