As staff training still continues, we didn’t want to leave the chimpanzees without much to do while we continue to progress our PRT program. So today we decided to throw them something fun. Today was “Let’s Go To The Movies Day.” We put out some ticket rolls and bags of popcorn to munch on.
Negra was really into the little bags of popcorn. She grabbed several bags all to herself.
Though Jamie grabbed several bags herself initially, something else caught her eye.
The Ticket Rolls!
Ticket rolls have been becoming a favorite with both groups. Honey B, Mave, and Willy B were given some earlier last year and almost became and instant hit. The Group of Seven were also given some during Christmas. If you look closely, you could see some. After Christmas, we there were several nests found with tickets, and some that seemed they were made entirely out of tickets. When the ticket rolls were spotted, Jamie immediately went to work to unroll them.
Honey B loved her bags of popcorn and grabbed as many as she could.
Willy B also wanted some.
Mave decided not to participate in today’s activities. But here are some photos of her eating lunch on her makeshift table from Sunday.

Their enthusiasm for the tickets reminds me of my dog, Figgy. I caught him lying on his bed in a corner of the living room one day with a box of tissues between his front legs. One by one, he grabbed a tissue in his mouth and in a big gesture of showmanship pulled it out of the box and flung it over his shoulder. All 200 of them. I wasn’t about to stop him. He was having too much fun.
That’s what those tickets are. Hundreds upon hundreds upon hundreds of pieces of fun. Who would dare think that they should play with restraint…. I love their enthusiasm.

Wonderful story!

Being a homemade-hand-cranked-popcorn junkie, I’m with Negra. Grab those bags by the fistfuls and enjoy every yummy crunchy morsel. She is hysterical pouring that popcorn down her throat. Oh Neggie, you sure do love your little crunchy tidbits. Also smiled over Jamie enjoying the tickets. Of course she did! And the blue streamers of tickets look so festive in the Californians family room. While I was disappointed Mave didn’t dive into the days activities your photos of sweet Mave with her sweet potatoes warmed my heart. Especially that last photo, look how excited she looks! What was inside that white big?! What a wonderful day.
Thanks Chad. Hope you are making strides in your new training program.

Hi, Kathleen! That photo was taken on Sunday during lunch. During breakfast and lunch, everyone is served bags of primate chow with their meal of vegetables and fruits! It’s a favorite amongst all of them!

As always, their sweetness elevates my day! Do they ever watch movies, well, snippets of movies? Just wondering.

Willy B likes his “stories” (Ice Age)
Vicky says
I just love them all so much.

MAVE didn’t want popcorn?! Hope she’s okay…
Always good to see Neggie enjoying her carbs!
Yes, funny we can’t get Willy B a big bowl of popcorn, a fuzzy blanket, and his “stories” at the sane time!

I love the ideas you come up with to keep those sweet Chimps busy. I’m sorry Mave did not participate I hope she is alright. She sure looks content in the pictures from the other day.

Mave is good. Popcorn just isn’t a big motivator for her. During dinner, she sometimes even skips eating the popcorn in her daily night bag and let’s Honey B or Willy B collect it after she has eaten the other contents of it. She did enjoy her firehose cube food puzzle stuffed with peanuts and nuts today though.

I suspect that Mave is just her own woman….if she doesn’t feel like it, she is not going to join in; I love that about her.
If you are a giver like Mave, jou hàve to take time for yourself and become Zen again………
Arlene and Michael says
Oh that’s great to hear Chad. I’m sure just like everyone else they have their likes and dislikes and I am very happy to hear she had a treat with the fire hose cute food puzzle!!!
Linda C says
Thanks, Chad. I misread the thunderstorm video Q&A, where Mave was calling the alarm while picking through her night bag. I thought she was after the popcorn there.

If I can stumble across a DVD of a film that doesn’t have images that could be disturbing to the chimpanzees (snakes, for example), I will send it. I thought about send Willy B a copy of the claymation film “Wallace and Gromit”, but the Wallace and a good many of the other characters have prominent teeth and grins, and that might be provocative to some viewers. I’ll keep looking.
