Many thanks to Stephanie Bell for sponsoring such a lovely day of sanctuary for the chimpanzees in celebration of Marie Spearman’s birthday!!
“She has been a guiding light of compassion in my life (and in the lives of many others). So grateful for the light she shines and can’t think of a better way of honoring her since CSNW does so much light shining too.”
Happy Birthday, Marie! We all hope you have a beautiful day!

Why are the 2 groups separated? When the new 6 come will they be with Willy B., etc.
I look forward to your blog each day! ?

Hi Pat,
The answer to that question is not an easy one, but after multiple attempts to integrate the two groups in 2019, we determined it was unsuccessful due to extreme, continued fighting and Burrito sustaining severe injuries. You may read more about that here if you like: https://chimpsnw.org/2019/11/update-2/
We do hope to integrate the new 6 with Willy B, Honey B and Mave eventually because by nature chimpanzees are meant to be in larger groups. However, integrations take time and can be very complicated especially in what is really an unnatural setting for chimpanzees. J.B. wrote more about that here: https://chimpsnw.org/2019/11/getting-along/ As we believe some of the chimpanzees from both groups resided with one another at some point, they may have better success, so we are hopeful, but there’s just no way to know. Our expansion plans were done with the option to house one larger group or two separate so we are prepared for whatever the chimpanzees decide is best. 🙂
