A dusting of snow fell overnight but by morning it was vanishing rapidly. With each passing hour, the gang had to venture further and further to get their fix.
By afternoon, only a portion of the Twister climbing structure showed any evidence of last night’s snowfall.
Missy and Burrito filled their mouths before it, too, was gone.
But it won’t be long until the snow returns.
We are totally blessed because of people like all of the caretakers at this sanctuary and others. I joined yesterday and hope to do what I can in the future but I just wanted to take a moment and thank you for the wonderful blog of the fun that The chimps had today my question is though how well do they take the cold weather I know they have the heated indoors in the heated floor and I truly appreciate all who have donated to the organization to allow these beautiful things.
Oh, and I think what you’re doing for the cows too is just wonderful I’m sure the chimps love walking along the fence with them during warmer days.
May you all have a wonderful weekend.

Yours is a good question, Ken. I, too, have been (pleasantly) surprised that the original Gang of Seven seem to have adapted to snow and winter in the Cascades. Hopefully over the next several weeks you will be able to see the original seven enjoying the snow draping Young’s Hill. As for the other three, this will be their second winter in the Cascades after living in Southern California. With any luck their curiosity will get the better of them and they will venture out into the snow. However, if last year was any indication, it appears that they warmer climates.
Oh, and welcome to the CSNW community of supporters.
Welcome to the blog, Ken!
Hi Ken – Welcome! The climate here is certainly not like that of their natural habitat, which varies quite a bit but does not get as cold as it does in Cle Elum. But they have adapted to it pretty well. In fact, they spend more time outside when it’s in the 40s and 50s than when it is in the 90s or above. When the snow piles up, however, it puts a damper on our walks until we get the plow out there…
Welcome, Ken! It’s great to have you among us. Thanks for your nice comments on JB’s post. I’m sure you’ll enjoy getting to know the chimps’ antics and how serious they can be about their wishes, especially of caregivers. It’s truly wonderful that they can live lives of choice in the sanctuary’s enriching environment.
What beautiful pictures! No one can convince me otherwise that Jamie isn’t displaying a smile of contentment. Perhaps she has been apprised of the latest weather forecast.
You got a smile from the Boss, JB! Nice!
Oh that last photo of Burrito, he looks intoxicated from his snow consumption!Hope he caught that pice falling out of his mouth and got a second chance to saver its frosty goodness. Love the top photo too. And absolutely Jamie looks content, happy and bushy haired.
Great blog eating in the snow. I remember how much fun that was.
Nice fun experience Missy and Burrito. Enjoy more to come.
Welcome Ken! I’ve been a supporter of this amazing organization since before the original seven chimps arrived and I am always so thrilled when others discover CSNW! I don’t comment very often, but never miss a blog post, as I still always seem to learn something!
