Running Toward The Future

December 1, 2020 by Chad de Bree

Before I get into the happenings of today, there was some BIG news announced today in our newsletter and social media sites (here is the Instagram post). Today, we announced the names of the group of six who will hopefully be able to call Chimpanzee Sanctuary Northwest home next year! We are all beyond excited to meet Cy, Lucky, Rayne, Terry, Dora, and Gordo! We are also truly grateful to all of you, the followers of this sanctuary, who have donated and spread the word about us on Giving Tuesday! All of your donations will help us continue to complete our expansion as quickly as possible so they can arrive next year! We all know this year has not been the easiest on anybody, but your constant generosity not only helps us provide care for our current residents, but also plan to bring more home! So thank you! Thank You! THANK YOU!

Lately, both Jamie and Burrito have been inviting caregivers to races around Young’s Hill. Some of you already know, Missy is not one to pass up a good run around Young’s Hill. Sometimes she just seemingly appears out of nowhere and passes you within a blink of an eye!

I am truly convinced she waits for everybody to leave first, so she can catch up! I found her today waiting at the bottom of the hill as Burrito and J.B. raced around.

She even found a place to stake out where on the hill Burrito and J.B. were.

And like a bolt of lightening, she was off! (Long before I could bring the camera up and realize she was gone!)

Missy even likes to take her lunch on the go!

Missy is known to have two speeds: 0 and 100. When she isn’t a chimpanzee pinball, darting and bouncing around Young’s Hill, she likes to take in the sights and sounds usually from the tallest structures.

Missy is amazing and we couldn’t imagine a life without her here!

BONUS PHOTOS:

Here are a couple extra photos of some other adventures today.

After breakfast, Negra was one of the first people to go out onto Young’s Hill, even before Jamie!

After she had her moment of basking in the morning sun, it was back to her nest.

Foxie decided today called for not one, but TWO dolls!

And Burrito pondering if this outing on Young’s Hill will be a race or stroll. (Luckily for this human, this time was just a stroll!)

My gosh, Missy, she’s faster than a speeding bullet. I could hardly believe what I was seeing when she came bounding up the hill, it really made me laugh.

This is the greatest news I’ve heard all day!! Also, great music for Missy’s blow-by!!

It always amazes me how the music you folks choose is so perfectly matched with the visuals we get. And this time was a stunner. All the intrigue and mystery of the race — where IS Missy? Waaaay back there, and then zooming forward out of the void to bypass Jamie and Burrito. I laughed out loud. Here’s hoping there were great contributions today to the current 10 and the new 6. Wow, will you folks have your hands full!! That’s a lot of food prep, enrichment and cleaning coming your way, and so worth it given its meaning for the new chimps whose lives will be enhanced in so many ways. Of course, easy for me to say, I’m not the one cutting up all those watermelons, carrots, bananas, pomegranates, etc. Thank you for all you do for these incredible fellow beings!

I thought the same about the music and had a good chuckle when the Sanctuary walkie-talkie came on…just as if it belonged in the music!

Missy likes to give you a head start, so it looks even better when she overtakes you!
It does my heart good to see Neggie first on the hill and then with a sherpa. I sent one for her a couple of years ago, thinking they’d be perfect for her! And it looks like Jody doesn’t shred those!
Can’t wait to see the new 5! Wanna see if “Gordo” lives up to his name!

SO EXCITING TO KNOW WHO IS COMING TO DINNER… 🙂 no more guessing… We’ll know how old people are if they get that reference… Thanks for the update on the names.. we can all start incorporating them into our psyches… What a glorious day for races, strolls, sunning your troll dolls, eating as you exercise, surveying the area from the highest perch and napping all snuggled up after a quick venture into the sun… Thanks Chad.. and everyone. Good night you Kings and Queens of the PAC NW.you Princes & Princesses of CSNW.with dreams of a new group of neighbors to come.

I gather Lucky and Dora are females? The rest are male? I’m will wait for more information if you choose to dole it out over the next few months, but I’m impatient for more good news. Can’t wait.

Hi, Betsy! Lucky, Dora, and Rayne are the females of the group, and Cy, Terry, and Gordo are the males. As a bonus fun fact, Cy and Lucky are brother and sister!

Thanks Chad, it will be such fun to get to know each of them as individuals.

The very first thing I saw this morning was your email announcing the New Six with Lucky’s kind face staring at me. I let out a wee squeal of joy! Now it’s really real, we have names. You must all be so excited!

Thanks for the video and photos today. That first photo of Missy is ridiculously so Missy, look at that little solid bod. And I could almost feel Burrito and Jamie’s anticipation of Missy’s “Swoosh” attack as they were walking the perimeter. They kept peeking over their shoulders. Missy did not disappoint. I have been getting a kick out of Burrito walking bipedal lately. He’s following Annie’s lead I guess. : ) Burrito also looks so healthy and strong. After his snake bite incident, he looked slightly diminished for a while and I was so worried for him. But seeing him today it dawned on me how wonderful he looks. Your love and care has made him well, perhaps even better than before!

Oh, and Nerga, first outside?! Must have been a warm morning. Negra is still full of surprises, well, when she’s not being predictable under blanket nest that is. I do love seeing photos of Negra.

Wow that is great news about the 6 coming next year. You will certainly have your hands full but sure you will treasure every moment of it. Good luck and thank you for all you do

My Burrito-toes looked like a real pro jazz musician, be-bopping right along to the music and his bipedal bounce! Love my goofy man. ????
