Mave Loves Eggplant

August 19, 2020 by Kelsi

There are many techniques to eating an eggplant. For example, us humans would probably put some salt on our eggplant to pull the water out before cooking with it. But these chimps, especially Mave, Honey B, and Willy B, enjoy it raw and preferably whole! That seems to be the most exciting way to serve it to them! Honey B will run and grab hers through the food chute and then sprint out into the chute to enjoy her eggplant. Mave, as you will see in the video, has the best method. Though, I don’t think many of us humans could get away with this in public.

Bonus Negra photos!

Thanks for this, I didn’t know that chimps enjoyed eggplant. I also love it, although (as you suggested) I usually salt it, and then rinse, dry, brush with olive oil and grill it. A really delicious summer treat.

The video of Miss Mave has me in stitches…Of course it always grabs my attention when the chimp people are eating something…Anything for that matter…I love how Mave was ‘going for the gusto’ & making those wonderful enthusiastic grunts as she was chomping away as fast as she could…I wish I could closely look into the inside of the chimps’ mouths…I’m intrigued to say the least…That’s why I love watching Willy B, watching himself through your cameras or mirror, & then watch him making those absolute cutest faces & maybe remembering how he lost his front tooth…That little gap in between his upper front teeth make him look all the more endearing…

I’ll start blaming my age & compromised vision for all my punctuation errors that I typically don’t notice until I’ve already clicked that proverbial “submit” button…Geesh

Why is it that seeing and hearing the chimps eat is always such a treat? Mave is so enjoying that eggplant! I like how she is saving the skins for last and going for the meaty juicy part first. I’m guessing she’s saving the skins to make a wadge at the end of her meal? Oh the sounds she makes, from the smacks to the squeaks — Not bad manners, just good food.

Precious dear Negra. (sigh) Thanks for these bonus Neggie photos. I can never have too much Negra in my life.

Love knowing that there is something Mave loves! She deserves lots of good things!

I feel like “bonus” and “Negra” are almost synonymous.

I don’t know why, but I could listen to the chimps eat all day. 🙂
