Happy New Year to everyone! I hope you all had a fun New Year’s Eve, filled with people you love. We had an exciting forage to celebrate the new year. As tradition, the chimps had black-eyed peas, sparkling cider, baked squash, and pomegranates. Willy B seemed to really like the black-eyed peas. I prepared a small video, but typical, the internet is being funky. I hope that tomorrow will be better! In the meantime, please enjoy these photos.
The sun came out and I think everyone including Honey B enjoyed a little bit of Vitamin D:

I really like this one of Missy:

Happy 2020 to all! Lovely photos Kelsi. The charm of the chimps is obvious even in the smallest details.. like the cleaning of a plate 🙂

Thank you, as always, you do a WONDERFUL job!! Happy New Year to you all and love and hugs too…

Missy looks as if she is submerged in a glass of sparkling cider! I like the fact that you serve your traditional celebratory meal each New Years Day, and I think it is wonderful Willy B fit right in loving the black eye peas. Wishing you prosperity and a very Happy New Year.

Happy and Peaceful New Year to all the chimps, caregivers and staff.
Michael says
Hi I have a question. If the Chimps are given sparkling cider is it alcoholic and if so does it affect their behaviour?
Keep up the good work. 🙂
Kelsi says
Hi Michael! We give them non-alcoholic Martinelli’s cider for parties.

Their own vegetarian version of Hoppin’ John, for luck! Can’t wait for the video, Kelsi!
I like the photo of Missy, but lol, wouldn’t you know, just as you get eye contact with that one…..:) !
Happy New Year to all!

Sad news for the New Yrar, the zoo in Germany that lost many of its primates in the fire…(the gorillas are okay and 2 chimps survived)…. all due to use of illegal flying lanterns
Maureen says
Yes, Linda, very very sad. I commented on this on yesterday’s post. The horrifying news made me think of “our” Cle Elum 10, glad for their safety, and so heartbroken for the terrifying and anguished end for the 30 apes in Germany. I’ve virtually hugged our 10 many times since then
Kelsi says
Yes, sadly I say that. Very tragic 🙁

Kelsi: with all the photos / videos you all take, I wish I had taken a picture off of my computer screen with my camera, a photo of one of the chimps scooting around on a little blue wheeled wagon scooping up Kings Hawaiian Rolls. I am sure its impossible for you to know what day that video was, but just on the slight chance you would know without going through any trouble, I would appreciate if you could send it to me. Some photos are so endearing and I pause the video and use my camera so I can print it at drug store. Thanks

Hi, Elaine!
It was the video on Christmas Day, “Merry Christmas!”.
Can you find it in the archives okay?
(Also, if you want to share videos with folks, find them on YouTube, click the arrow that says “share”, and try the instructions that I gave you before-I thought you wanted to share blog posts, didn’t realize you just wanted to share the videos)
Kelsi says
Hi Elaine! I think that was the Christmas video. Here is the link to that blog: https://chimpsnw.org/2019/12/merry-christmas-2/
Honey B loves that scooter! One of my favorite moments from that day. 🙂
Kathy Shuck says
Just curious. Do Honey B, Mave and Willy B ever get to see or interact with the original chimps. If not, why? If so, how?
Kelsi says
Hi Kathy. They are able to see each other daily through the windows. However, we started introduction for the 3 and the 7. They did not go as planned. You can read this blog to learn more: https://chimpsnw.org/2019/11/update-2/
