Not only are chimpanzees adept at using tools and solving puzzles, but they are also good at planning ahead. When Jamie is confronted with a difficult problem, she often disappears for a while and returns with a tool that will help her solve it.

OMG, Seeing Jamie (I think) sitting on the upside-down can and sliding it along the wall to get the goodies reminds me of when one of my jobs was ordering and processing the company’s supplies. I use to stand on the stool and either get or put something on the shelf and then instead of getting off (safety procedure) I’d grab a shelf and lift my weight a bit so the stool would slide down the wall/shelves. That is until my boss caught me. Well after that I just made sure the supply room door was closed…. Gosh I thought I was the one with that smart idea.

So, so clever! I love these videos, thank you!

That was great! I wish Jamie could express verbally how satisfying it is to always meet her challenges with success! Your videos need to be on the evening news so everyone can witness how intelligent chimpanzees are.

Very smart! Why push the barrel when you can ride it.
The videos are always so informative and gives us a chance to see the chimps in action. Thanks for bringing them closer to us.
Arlene and Michael says

Hey Jamie! Do you have a new blue barrel? Very nice. We just had a chimp behavioral specialist from the US visit Sanaga-Yong and she brought several PVC-based enrichment devices for our chimpanzees. I was reminded of you and the others at CSNW as I climbed on top of a tunnel to hang the hanging tube for four young chimpanzees who receive enrichment every other day. I miss you all and can’t wait to visit with you upon my return! Love, Sandra
