How time flies

May 31, 2014 by Debbie

I was just telling JB yesterday, I can’t believe it is just two weeks away from our six year anniversary! Wow. How is it almost half-way through 2014 already? Well the saying rings true here at the sanctuary—how time flies when you’re having fun. 🙂

Perhaps it’s on my mind because we’re going to start doing 100 Happy Days next week, but I’ve been thinking about all the really great memories from the last six years! I’m curious what YOUR favorite happy moments are. Comment here with your most favorite memory (and if you have it bookmarked already, give us the link to the blog post about it, so new readers can look back with us!)

Here’s some photos I found from this month that hadn’t been posted before, of the seven amazing chimpanzees we’ve had the pleasure of caring for during the last six years.

I’m looking forward to hearing what your favorite happy moments are!

I WISH I could find this blog, but one of my very favorite blogs/video is of Negra clapping for her nightbag. You can see the determination on her face and it is precious and priceless.

Any video which was taken outside on the go-pro cameras are also favorites of mine.

Burritos rain dance- especially if youve ever seen the clip w Dr. Jane Goodall explaining her perspective of a male chimp doing rain dance.

#1 ALL TIME favorite is the chimps first time out on Youngs Hill, and JBs brilliant blog about why the chimps hugged each other.

      I think it’s this video you’re thinking of: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dxkGIIyPSKg

Those are all great moments. Thanks, Kerri!

My favorite is Jamie rocking a blue tutu, a scarf and being her amazing self (which includes keeping her caretakers on their toes).

That’s easy…the first day they got to go out on Young’s Hill! What an emotional, beautiful, fantastic day! Drove by the sanctuary today, but didn’t get to see them out playing, though.

My favorite is Negra getting reassurance from Foxie and Jamie before she goes into her cabin for the first time. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=865NfCQwKQQ

Foxie staring right into the GoPro camera would be a very close second but I have to pick two of darling Negra’s moments as my favourite ever posts. The first one is of Negra holding a piece of lettuce and looking SO happy even though she was probably (as stated at the time) just “mid chew”. The other one is of Negra sleeping with a red blanket wrapped around her head. Negra is just SO beautiful in every photo but photos of her with her happy droopy lip just take her to another level of beauty.

Absolute favorite moment was the first moments on Young’s HIll. I can’t find the video on the site right now – help, please!

That ALL the chimps went out together. Burrito’s little dance when the chimps were first given access to Young’s Hill. They way they all hugged each other for reassurance. The comments from the humans “they know it’s for them” “they look so small” “look how small Jamie looks”. and the tears of joy. Including my own right now. I don’t even have to SEE the vid to remember all of this.

    Negra’s Journey
    https://chimpsnw.org/category/youngs-hill-2/page/10/

This was around the 5th anniversary, and it shows Negra in her transport cage, then looking out the front window, and then Negra foraging on the hill.

Those are both amazing happy moments 🙂 Here’s the news video from their first day out: http://www.komonews.com/news/local/130546448.html
