…..and Missy reminds me of Aunt Jemima, or the super fun aunt that we all have had, that also would get a wooden spoon on your tail, wipe her hands on her apron and move on!

woah. yesterday or the day before I was just thinking about and visualizing Jamie and her purse from a while ago! (don’t recall if it was pictures or video).. she found the nail file that was tucked in the purse (set out for enrichment) and started filing her nails .. I remember her finding in there a tissue and then wiping her nose with it.. oh Jamie you smartie.

How did she know that the file was for fingernails?
Before going to a lab, Jamie was in a human home as a pet and used in entertainment. She is most human-centered and does the most human-like behaviors, most likely because that is what she was surrounded by when she grew up. Unfortunately chimpanzees really belong with their chimpanzee mothers when they are young, not in a human household. And of course when they get too big and strong they can’t live with humans anymore, so in Jamie’s case she was sent into biomedical research. Thankfully now she has a sanctuary where she can make choices and lots of times her choice includes doing human stuff. She likes to draw with a pen, sometimes will put on clothes or boots, drinks from a cup, etc.
