Jamie keeps us guessing and Foxie keeps growing

September 22, 2008 by Sarah

Two fun things to report today:

1. Jamie is still amazing us all! Here’s a video of her sorting through a purse full of enrichment, and making good use of each item she finds.

2. This one is so exciting for me: After breakfast we hand out enrichment to the chimps so that they have something to do while we finish up cleaning. I walked into the front room area the other morning carrying a bright pink scarf. I was going to give it to Missy because she loves to play tug-o-war with scarves. Foxie clapped and banged at me as I walked by her. This isn’t too unusual for Foxie. She’s often seeking a little knuckle rub or wrist tickle. But I looked down and she was emphatically gesturing toward the scarf. I held it up and said “You want this?” with what I’m sure was a very confused look on my face, since she never wants anything soft. She gestured again so I held it up to the cage so she could pull it through. That was exciting enough, but when we saw her place the scarf carefully around her (as though she was starting a nest), I was thrilled! It’s so great that she’s getting closer and closer to that cozy nest we all know she deserves!

I never tire of watching the chimps. What a smart girl!! She knew exactly what do with the tissue and file. Am thrilled to hear that Foxie took the scarf. I can’t wait to see her build a nest for her and her “babies”.
Thank you Sarah for the warm fuzzy I got from this entry. I am so grateful to be able to share in the progress of the chimps. Thank you so much for the opportunity to be a part of their lives!

what a smartie! (when she wiped her nose, it reminded me of Billy Jo with the ice cream)
I just can’t imagine her in her former life with nothing to do day in and day out FOR YEARS – I’m sooo glad she is with CSNW now, busy busy busy
great news about Foxie – sure hope that she’ll soon be gesturing for a bunch of sheets & blankets .. you’d think that she would want to do the same as her friends, when she sees them building their cozy nests (?) .. she’ll come around to it when she’s ready I suppose

Well I guess we all know now that Foxie’s favorite color is Pink, just like her troll dolls hair color. I have been making a scarf for her and guess what color it is, PINK, full of sparkles, she will love it for winter. No more ebay for me I will have to buy and amke and ship myself, I still need to contact the sellers to find out what happened to all of the troll dolls I sent!!!

I bet if I send Foxie a Bright Flouresent Pink blankie with sheets she would make a huge pink nest for her and her pink babies!

Sarah, Thank you so much for the news about Foxie. It is so exciting to know she is getting there. My heart just aches for her knowing she doesn’t make those cozy nests. She has come a long way. It is great that she likes a knuckle rub. I can just imagine the look on her face and smile with a warm fuzzy in my throat.
And Jamie! My eyes bugged out when I saw her using the file on her nails. Smart girl, Jamie!!! Just precious!

Oh wow. The chimpanzees surprise us and amaze us endlessly. I have been wondering how they deal with their nails. They are so human looking and we know what we have to do with our nails. Now we know how Jamie deals with them!! And darling Foxie! We do love her so.

Do you realize that CSNW has 70,300 results on the GOOGLE search site….WOW……that is amazing, and that is only with Chimp Sanctaury NW and Chimp Sanctuary Northwest…NOT CSNW or Chimpanzee Sanctuary Nw or Chimpanzee Sanctuary Northwest, I mean that is incredible!!! So it is my second day off work and as you can see I am BORED, I guess I will start my Story to write about on CARE2….and I cannot wait to mail Foxie her next care package of Hot Pink Sheets and A Hot Pink Comforter, did you raise enough funds yet for W/D so we can send nice big warm fuzzy comforters for winter????
