“Bigfoot”

July 30, 2011 by Debbie

Foxie gets pretty excited about new trolls, and seems to especially enjoy the colorful hair. You can imagine how she might really love a troll covered entirely in hair…

Thanks to Dawn for the wonderful donation!

I am so thrilled to see Foxie loving her Bigfoot troll so tenderly! What a sweet chimp she is. I especially thought it was dear seeing her cross her feet and have a special moment with her new “baby” on her stomach, in loving chimp fashion.

(From Karen) I have just sen Margaret’s photos from the Troll Olympics. What an exciting event beginning with the lighting of the troll torch. So many events with so many great competitors. Prizes! Troll everywhere! The spirit of competition high! Booths! Cookies at the bake sale! Simply a staggering event! Diana does it again with such brilliant ideas and the way she carries them through with staff and volunteers. Hip hip horray! Happy Troll Day. The athletic competitors forms during the various events were truly Olympic quality! 🙂

LOVE this!! It melts my heart. Thank you so much for such a wonderful Foxie gift, Dawn! I have seen a whole lot of trolls in the last few weeks, but Bigfoot Troll is something entirely new. Those happy Foxie feet and toes at the end say it all.

Yes! Those happy Foxie feet and toes! What more expression of delight could there be? That just had me, well, hooting out loud myself. I think I’ve watched this video about 15 times now!!

Oh I loved the kisses Foxie gave Big foot Troll and then cuddled it. Let’s see if this troll can keep her hair on and away from Jamie!!! Pant Hoots to you Dawn!!

What struck me most was that Foxie seemed to treat this particular troll more like a baby than any of the others. Her maternal instincts truly come through. I can’t help but think that trolls soothe some of the pain of her past when babies were taken away from her.
Thank you, Dawn, for a truly special troll.

I appreciated your insight Theresa, since I am a new supporter, I didn’t know if she loved this one more or if she treated them all that way. But as I said to Amy, the hairyness of it made me think she could relate to it more than any of the others, and I personally think Foxie may love trolls because trolls do look quite “chimpy” when you think of it. Back in the ’60’s Thomas Dam (the creator of the Dam trolls) actually put out boy & girl monkey troll — very rare now, they go for around 400.00 on the collectors market now. But I think Foxie’s satisfyied with just what she’s got, and I am so glad to have made her so happy, after all the losses that one suffered.

Do you think Foxie loves the hair because of the color or because of the hair itself, since chimps are covered with hair themselves?

I love the last shot = troll bliss.

Amy, when I was choosing from my “stock” of trolls I lit on the Bigfoot troll as soon as I came upon it, precisely because of the hair, & even “told” Foxie that in the note I send along — I was just wishing they had made one with brown hair! Those Bigfoots are not easy to find any more either, so I hope Jamie doesn’t wreck it beyond repair for her. The bkigfoots came out in the late ’90’s I think, and most are probably in private collections now. I couldn’t find ONE on eBay even!

Dawn… what a treasure for Foxie!!! And Foxie adores the little hairy creature. It’s larger then other trolls and is covered with hair – seems more like a baby chimp. Have you noticed if Foxie’s behavior is different with this troll than others??? Also, do you think troll hair is pulled out as part of grooming behavior or just for the fun of it??

well done Dawn , what a super find lovely Foxie , she was so gentle with her new baby xxx

To those of you who are wondering about Foxie’s normal reaction to trolls, here’s a couple pictures from nearly three years ago where Foxie had just received her second troll: https://chimpsnw.org/2008/08/the-troll-soap-opera/

She seems to like receiving trolls with hair, since many of her “babies” (as we tend to nickname them) end up with no hair at all. She will hold them up and look at them with awe. With this “bigfoot” troll she didn’t spend much time looking at it but rather just quickly hugged it to her chest. She often will hold her dolls like a baby or tuck them in her pelvic pocket, but this is the first time I saw her hug a troll with her feet! I thought that was the best part of this video.

    Thanks, all, for your comments!

Thank you so much for the link Debbie, those are great photos! What a fortunate “accident” that someone decided to try giving not just any doll, but a troll, to Foxie. Seems to have truly added a missing dimension (and a healing one at that) to her life.

Yup, that last clip of her hugging “bigfoot” with her arms and legs at the same time is priceless! She must really love that new, hairy baby! 🙂

Thank you Dawn for finding this special Troll and sending it to Foxie. I am always touched by her reaction to her new babies but this one was special. I still have tears rolling down my face.

Seeing the motherly instincts and love these chimps give to the trolls is so sweet.

It just kills me that their babies were torn away from them. Imagine how depressed these chimps were when their babies were taken from them forever.
