Foxie, up close

May 24, 2011 by Jackie

Not only do we have an awesome camera (thanks to our awesome board of directors), but we also have some really photogenic chimps! Here’s an up close photo of Foxie, who was keeping a close eye on the boss, Jamie.

In addition to keeping her eye on her boss, she’s also been keeping her eye on this troll doll for the last two days:

I’m wondering if CSNW would try to integrate an infant chimp into this group if there came a need for an infant chimp to have a new home (which may not happen often since they are exploited for advertising or kept as pets when they are infants then disposed of when they get too big to handle) ? I know this has been done at STC with infants and when I see Foxie ‘mothering’ her troll dolls it made me wonder.

      Hi Debbie,

As we’ve said before, it is very difficult to integrate a new chimp into an established group. Although we do see mothering behavior from Foxie, we also see quite a bit of aggression from her towards her trolls (I like J.B.’s description of Foxie’s “karate chops” in this post from the early days: https://chimpsnw.org/2008/07/todays-photos/), so it’s truly hard to say what kind of mother Foxie would be.

Beautiful photos. She is such an awesome chimp. she loves her babies. breaks my heart to know her babies were taken from her at birth. she seems to put her babies to her chest as to nurse them. I love them all. Thanks for the work you guys put in to taking such great care of them. Hugs to all of you.u

I wonder if she is remembering all the babies she lost when she stares at her troll baby so intentently. It’s heartbreaking to think of our sweet, beautiful girls enduring such cruelty. I am so grateful they are no longer being used that way. Nothing can ever be enough to make up for that but now they have love and a measure of freedom. I am so grateful Keith couldn’t turn away when he picked up that magazine.

I love the way she looks at her trolls. That is a lovely picture. 🙂

Totally love the photo of Foxie and her new baby, gosh, two days and she still has her hair, that must be a record.

I, too, look at that picture and wished she’d had the chance to be a mother to her babies, instead of being a test subject. We all have “what if’s” and “I wished” in our lives and I’m very happy that Foxie has found the one thing that makes her happy, it’s so obvious. Thanks to CSNW, way to go.

My sentiments exactly, looking at that last photo, which yes, is both joyful and heartbreaking. Look how intently she is staring into the eyes of little troll doll!! 🙂 🙁
