Distractions

January 19, 2011 by Elizabeth

I’m going to be honest: Sometimes it’s just more fun to watch the chimpanzees play than it is to scrub the playroom. JB and I had a hard time making any significant progress this morning because the chimps were on fire (figuratively speaking)! We had some serious sun today, and relatively mild temperatures, which meant the greenhouse was warm and inviting. Foxie, Missy, and a troll doll had a lengthy play session on and around one of the window ledges; I’ll do my best to post that footage tomorrow.

For now, here’s a video of Annie reprising her stand-on-Missy game from this past summer (see that video here).

I think I used to stand on my little brother just like that!! Looks like those 2 girls had more fun though. Loved the way Missy kept swatting Annie’s feet away!

I always love watching the play between these two good friends. I also love seeing Negra (I’m assuming) loving the sunshine with the blanket covering her, as always.

Funny stuff. I like how she was actually stepping around. 🙂

That is hilarious!! I nearly fell off my chair! How could you not watch that all day long?! I love the moment when Annie just stands still on Missy’s back, both their little bare chimp bums facing the camera. Too cute. 🙂

As a volunteer I think my “job” is to be as helpful as possible in all area’s of the sanctuary. With that said I do find myself just standig in the back ground watching chimps and not being very productive. Some how the play room always gets cleaned and I get to watch chimps groom, play and nap. I think that’s called a win win.

im sure observation skills are a most important quality in a volunteer Denice ! 🙂

I cannot stop watching this video – it cracks me up!! Annie’s feet just going and that last bit when Missy falls over laughing is so funny! I laugh out loud every time I watch this. Which is a lot! 🙂

Wow I love seeing Negra so active, not to exclude the noticeably increased social activity in the others as well. To Denice; It’s to bad you don’t have any chimps under the age of about 7 to care for. Personal experience showed me the best way to clean their environment productively, and watch them, was to just climb in with them and clean away. This only apply’s for those chimps younger than 7 years old though. Sometimes they even help with the water hose (soaking their caregiver in the process and laughing it up).
