We’ve been hearing from people all over the country, wondering how the weather is affecting us here at Chimpanzee Sanctuary Northwest. It’s been a pretty dramatic few days – the local area has mudslides, avalanches, and lots of flooding. But rest assured, the chimps are on high ground (literally!) and we are all safe and sound.

Thanks for the update! Our hearts go out to all your neighbors who aren’t so lucky. I’ve been looking at pictures – what a mess!

Sarah, thanks so much for this post, we really do worry about you guys and the Sanctuary when these things are on the news. The Sanctuary seems to be situated in a pretty safe spot….doesn’t seem likely that you’d have a slide there. I don’t think the Yakima river has been identified as a potential threat to the road that accesses the Sanctuary either.
It is another reminder for all of us to have emergency plans and supplies readily available. Please think positive thoughts of safety and well-being for livestock and “outside animals” in all of the western Washington flood zones.

Thank you for letting us know Sarah. I have been concerned about the staff and the chimps with the footage they have shown on CNN. I am relieved to know you all are safe. I hope those in Washington’s flood zones stay safe also. What a horrible thing for those people to have to endure. My prayers are with them all.

I think Sarah deserves a special thanks……..
On Wednesday when she was going to work she ran into a little trouble.
There were mud slides blocking her way to the Sanctuary. She parked her car and walked in a driving rain storm and active mud slides to get to the chimps.
The dedication is commendable.
