Burrito and Negra have an interesting relationship. She seems genuinely afraid of him at times and will hide in the front rooms when he is displaying. And if there is excitement in the group, she will give him a huge submissive greeting (she will grunt loudly and present her rear end to him) as if to say “don’t take it out on me, please!”
But they also spend a lot of time grooming together, and once and a while Burrito can get Negra to laugh. Of course, he has to play Negra-style (calmly and slowly, laying down if possible), which is a stretch for Burrito. Take a look (FYI – the hissing sound you hear is me moving the pneumatic doors to let the chimps in for lunch):

wow so great to see the gentler playful side of him – don’t think I’ve ever seen him playing with her .. more lovely moments caught on tape ~ thank you!

So Negra doesn’t laugh very often?

Thanks for the video, maybe Burrito’s still hanging onto the birthday party feeling, he seems more relaxed lately. It’s been nice seeing more of him this week.

Oh, it makes me sad to think that Negra experiences fear at times, seems like she’s had more than her share in life and that her golden years should feel safe. I hope Burrito learns that there is more to gain from showing his tender side around Negra….good that he has learned to interact with her calmly and slowly at least some of the time….and VERY good that he can even make her laugh.

Happy New Year To All!
We have read the blog daily since day one but have never posted. It is heartbreaking to read about the tortures they’ve experienced. We are thrilled to see that each day brings a greater feeling of security and comfort to each of the Seven Lovelies.
On a different topic – a beautiful, young boxer, sharpei girl was just rescued from death row and is in URGENT need of a loving home. She is very affectionate, playful and a wonderful companion. Her name is Bessie and she is located in the Seattle area. Please let us know if you can provide a loving home for her. If not, please forward and cross-post. Our email is: [email protected]. We hope the New Year will bring freedom and happiness to all animals.
