More on Nest-Making

November 6, 2008 by J.B.

Foxie has been using a lot of enrichment lately, but she still hasn’t begun making nests with sheets and blankets like the other chimps do. Its her choice though, so if she feels more comfortable without a nest, more power to her. But I must say that I am looking forward to the day that she discovers the comfort and security that the other chimps find in nest-making.

Jody, on the other hand, is a master nest-maker, second only to Missy. When she’s done making an elaborate nest and she lays on her back with a foot in the air, she looks like she doesn’t have a care in the world.

Someone recently asked whether or not Burrito makes nests. He often lays down with a single sheet over himself, sometimes just covering his middle (not out of modesty I can assure you). But he can’t resist stealing someone else’s nest – why do all the work when Jody can do it for you?

What a guy!!! He’s got it made. I love watching the changes in their faces. all three look so content and relaxed. Maybe one cold winter day Foxie will discover the warmth and comfort of a nest!

I love that picture of Jody. She likely doesn’t have a care in the world, except maybe Burrito stealing her nest 🙂 That is too funny. I agree Cindy, maybe Foxie will start to realize the benefits of a cozy nest when its cold outside.

oooohhhh, Foxie sleeps on the concrete? I’m with you JB, I really, really, would like to see her enjoy the soft, cushy blankets and sheets.

We should mention that the concrete is heated and is pretty toasty warm, although I wouldn’t think as comfortable as a nest of blankets.

Look at those faces!!! They say it all. It doesn’t matter what they sleep on – they’re content and in heaven!!!!!

I agree Gayle! They look relaxed and happy. I would like to see Foxie snuggled up in a soft pile of blankets though. But as JB said, it’s her choice and that’s what is important. That she is allowed to do what she wants for the first time in her life. I think one day she will suprise everyone and make a deep, comfy nest as if she has been doing it for years.
I love the picture of Jody with her foot in the air and is that a smug, smile I see on Burrito’s face? Just like a man, let the woman do the work and reap the rewards.

Each batch of photos shows our friends more and more themselves.

Diana it is good to know the cement is heated! I do think it would be nice to see Foxie in a big nest but she will do it in her own sweet time.
