Scribbling

September 26, 2008 by J.B.

Yesterday, while we were cleaning the playroom, Jamie amused herself by scribbling with a pen. Even though she’s not drawing anything in particular, you can see that she really enjoys the process. She grips the pen with precision and puts tremendous concentration into her drawing. Diana caught it on video:

Here’s a photo of one of the pages she scribbled on:

And here’s a photo of Jamie drawing, taken by Diana:

Here’s the funniest thing: Last night, while I was doing closing rounds, I went around the building to say goodnight to each of the chimpanzees. Jamie was laying on a bench in one of the front rooms, with blankets pulled up to her chest. But she wasn’t sleeping – she was drawing in bed! I felt like a parent that discovers their kid reading comic books in bed with a flashlight. Of course, Jamie can draw anytime she likes!

I love it!! Prints of some of Jamie’s art work will be for sale at the up coming comedy night on Oct 7th. I know this because they are all over my studio floor as I get them ready! That is what I do to volunteer. I tell you, Jamie’s art work is awesome!! Come to the comedy night and see/buy it! Margaret

What a nice thing to see Jamie still drawing…no matter what “writing” instrument she has in her hand…beautiful chimp and beatiful artist…..I’m so proud of her especially like a human child, drawing under the covers….that is great….thanks to all of you again for giving them a wonderful home and their freedom

all my love to all of you including the 7

It never ceases to amaze me how the smallest things resonate so powerfully with me, watching Jamie hold the pen and focus so intently makes me feel like I am watching someone I instinctively know, who is so similar to me, to all of us. Made me think of the faces of Dorothy’s chimp family at her funeral, we are all cut of different folds of the same cloth!!!

Margaret and Karen, can people who don’t make it to Oct 7 have any opportunity to own a Jamie original???

Such intense concentration and focus! Sweet Jamie enjoying drawing is such a heartwarming thing to see. I never tire of watching the videos of them!
Drawing in bed…too cute! I can’t describe how much it means to me to see them happy and safe and doing what THEY want to do. You have given them so much and I envy you being able to get so much in return.
Love and chimpy hugs to all!

That is just about the most intelligent expression I have ever seen! Look at those shining eyes….you can see that she is just so happy keeping busy with her drawing and all of the enrichments you have for her! As a matter of fact, her expression is much more intelligent than a lot of humans I know! 🙂 Jamie, you are AMAZING!!

School is driving me crazy!! Not because I’m in the class room but because I have no time to blog! I do get to see the photos, I just can’t write. Jamie is so amazing. I loved hearing she was drawing in bed. It brings back memories and how fun to know I used to do something Jamie is doing. I can’t wait to see the paintings at Comedy Night. Keep surprising us Jamie!
