Media coverage

August 26, 2008 by Diana

Seattle’s Komo News with Michelle Esteban aired a really great story about the sanctuary and the chimpanzees’ first steps outside on their 5:00 news. Hopefully it will play again tonight. You can also watch it online – click on “watch the story” at the top of the transcript on this page: http://www.komonews.com/news/27507779.html

Steve Wellman from Yakima’s CBS KIMA news was on-site today too and the chimpanzees’ were the top story on the 6:00 news. It’s also a great segment. Watch online here: http://www.kimatv.com/

Meryl Schenker, photographer for the Seattle PI took some amazing photos of the chimpanzees in the outdoor enclosure (including a couple with troll dolls). She has started to put some online in the PI photo gallery. You can look at them and rate each one! She’ll be adding more, so be sure to check back often. Click here for link.

Such a good day!!  More media updates as they come in!

Like everyone else, I spent much of the day checking the blog and watching the news videos – what an exciting day for the chimps and everyone who has a connectiton with them.

A special thank you to all of you at the Sanctuary for taking the time to post the updates, links and pictures and including all of us in the big day!

The Mary Schenker photos found on the Seattle PI link are BREATHTAKING!!! They truly capture the beauty and individuality of the chimps…and their caregivers. Just lovely.

Komo will air the story at 11:00 as well. This was an ad during the convention. Great story. I couldn’t wait and went to the web site. The pictures on the PI site are so good. I just kept going through them over and over. What a wonderful day1 Will anyone be able to sleep tonight knowing the playground, fresh air, and sunshine are ready and waiting in the morning? Sweet dreams.

Sanctuary staff ~ you guys did such a good job! I really hope, as tired as I know you must be, that you’re able to take some time out to soak up the great feelings from this remarkable and momentous time. I hope you realize that you are our modern day heros. Somehow we need to figure out how to free up some of your time so that you can go out to schools and inspire the upcoming generations ~ so that the kids look at you and say “I want to be just like you when I grow up”.

Shelly C ~ you are famous now! Foxie and her trolls are a wonderful story. It must feel really good for you to know that you’ve given Foxie something that she loves so dearly. Bless you.

I second Kim’s post – those photos that Meryl Schenker took are really great .. you can definitely see the difference between the inside photos and the outside photos when the outdoors/the sun hits their bodies and man do they look good

    those are some beautiful chimpanzees

many cheers to all at CSNW, I bow to you & congratulations!

(still tryin’ to view the video coverage on komo & kima, but for some reason, it’s not working – arrgh!)

I think this is the article from Discovery Magazine that hit Keith in the heart. He did something about it , it took time, money and alot of challenges but here he is today, and he should be very, very proud of his accomplishments!!!!

In the news clip from KIMATV is Burrito seeing his reflection in that window he is punching? Do the chimps have a full length plastic mirror? Do you think they would like one and do you have a place where you could safely hang one?
