Haunting Before Photo of Jody

June 17, 2008 by Diana

I keep thinking about the photo below. Jody looks so fragile. Like all of the chimpanzees who came from the laboratory, Jody’s hair is very sparse and her skin is loose over her atrophied muscles. I think this will be a “Before” photo and I will take another photo from the same vantage point in several months. Soaking in the sun and having the ability to climb and run and play will make a huge difference.

We just have to add a comment every day as we read the update and see the latest photos. It is SO heart warming to see Jodi so cozy and comfortable in her bed with all the blankets she wanted. It is heart breaking to think that these wonderful creatures have never had any comfort up until now. You all are angels.

You are so wonderful. I had no idea about about any of this untill i heard it on the news and then the next day the newspaper, which i recieved this web page. I cannot stop reading about it. I would love to volunteer if needed. Keep us updated for this is a real treat. God Bless you and the SEVEN in Cle Elum.

We’re looking forward to sharing your joy in their progress. Have they been outside yet?

    Hi MaryW,

Their outdoor area is currently under construction and we hope to have it completed soon. In the meantime, the chimpanzees have been enjoying the area by the double doors in the playroom, where they can sit in the sun and enjoy the breeze.
