Honey B

CSNW Olympics

July 30, 2024 by Ellen Brady-McGaughey

The humans of the sanctuary have been very excited about the Olympics, and today we were able to share our excitement with the chimps by tuning in to the Olympics where they could watch too! Cy and Rayne were especially interested in watching this morning’s events. All of this inspired us caregiver’s to compete in our own Olympic sport – competitive nesting! The rules were simple, each nest builder received the same number of blankets to use in building their nest, and each was allowed one novelty item. The item had to be approved for the chimps to use already, but could be anything besides a blanket. Interestingly each contestant chose to use multiple colorful peace sign blankets – a wonderful choice in the spirit of the Olympics! After two high quality nests were made, caregiver Ellen assisted Judges Rayne, Terry, and Honey B in scoring each contestant. There were three categories to score: technique, creativity, and comfort. Kelsi scored high in all 3 categories, getting notable mentions for her inclusion of a knot in her nest design and the overall comfort of the nest with its high walls and a Squishmallow being utilized as her novelty item. Jenna also earned high scores, but lost some points in technique due to her difficulty completing the difficult slinky maneuver. We had a lot of fun in today’s event, and who knows…you all might get to see more events as the week goes on!

The Holdouts

July 27, 2024 by Krissy Brasfield

We’ve given you a lot of Mora B footage as of late…

Are you tired of all the ridiculousness?  Are you sick of all the play faces?  The joy, the laughter, the shenanigans?

Are you sick and tired of Mora B?

Say it with me, folks.

HECK NO!!!

These girls just tickle us caregivers, even if they do create a longer cleaning schedule.

This clip does not include Mave, as she opted to stay in the chute while her sidekicks whooped it up in the front rooms.

So…how do we refer to a Honey B/Dora combo?  What say you?

Also, be sure your sound is on – you won’t want to miss all the laughter!

If you’d like to help supply the sanctuary with food, enrichment, medicines, supplies, and other necessities, please check out our Christmas in July drive and help empty our wish lists!

Best of Both Worlds

July 24, 2024 by Kelsi

Today has been a busy day, well for the humans anyways, for the chimps it has been very pleasant! It has finally cooled off a little and I think we are all thankful for a break from the hundred degree heat! The chimps spent their day playing, grooming, foraging, and a little hooting and hollering. In the video, you will find Dora and Honey B playing in their regularly-scheduled hookie session from their group to have a solo play session while we clean around them. On the other side of the chimp house, Jamie, Missy, and Negra had a very sweet grooming session before their lunch forage!

It wouldn’t be Wednesday without some bonus photos!

It must be Christmas in July because our foyer is full:

Sweet Annie bird:

Gordo grooming himself:

The greatest honor you can have is to receive a kiss from Negra:

A Meeting of the Girls Club

July 5, 2024 by Ellen Brady-McGaughey

I was lucky enough to stumble upon a meeting of the Girls Club last week, aka Mora B, aka Mave, Dora, and Honey B. I was walking around the sanctuary to give out some juice before heading to lunch myself when I found these 3 ladies lounging in the shade in the chute. Dora initiated play with me, so I sat down to enjoy the moment. She tapped the back of my hand with her (super cute) toes, let me knuckle rub her arm and back, and then I took my phone out so she could look at herself in my camera. While she was admiring herself, Honey B realized the camera was out and joined the party, which turned into playing with Dora while occasionally still watching themselves on the phone. I hope you enjoy watching all of this play out in today’s video, and be sure to stay until the end for a special guest appearance at Girls Club.

Mora B: Playing Hooky

June 22, 2024 by Sabrina

This week Mave, Honey B and Dora decided they would prefer not to shift with the rest of their group for cleaning and instead played hooky in the front rooms. where it was just the three of them. This is the not the first time you’ve heard about Honey B enticing her friends to skip out on shifting and hang out with her for a private play session and as you’ll see in today’s video, none of the girls had any regrets!

It’s B’s World, We’re Just Livin’ in It!

June 18, 2024 by Kelsi

Honey B has a whole lot of personality! You will often hear us refer to Honey B as a busy body, spunky, spontaneous, or mischievous. You never quite know what she is up to, even when you try to follow her on the cameras. It’s hard to keep up with her, always on the move or inspecting something. Though her moods change all throughout the hours, boring is never how I would describe her day. The other morning I found her greeting every single person in her group. It felt like she was doing crowd work as a politician, even Gordo received a very warm greeting from her! While she schmoozed the crowd, some of her group mates looked confused and tensed for a moment when she nudged or touched their shoulder, but as Honey gave them a breathy greeting, they were not going to question her behavior! Later, there was some displaying, so she joined in and screamed at all the boys, screaming and chasing Cy and Terry but later she was found laughing and playing with both of them.

In the afternoon, everyone received peanut butter magazines. Gordo got his and Honey B decided to join him out on the Bray and watch him do his afternoon enrichment. When we looked over at Gordo he seemed very hesitant that Honey B was following him outside, but he just pretend like she always did this. Eventually, Honey B left to get her own and you could tell Gordo took a big exhale :).

Just now, as caregiver Sabrina passed out kongs, Honey B was breathy panting and so excited, but as soon has Willy B came up to her she gave him a threatening look that seemed to warn “grab these and see what happens to you” like of look. Which personally, I would never want to experience! Though Honey B might keep us on our toes, she is a lot of fun to be around, and I wouldn’t have it any other way :).

This One’s for the Girls

June 12, 2024 by Kelsi

Nothing is more important than your girl friends. As you will see in the video, Honey B and Dora agree! Today, Honey B and Dora held back in the front rooms so that they could have some one-on-one gal time. Sometimes you just need a break from the men, ya know! Watching these two play really warms my heart. I often get asked by people, what sanctuary means to me. For me, it’s the little moments, like watching Honey B build friendships within her group, or to watch Dora flourish and become a social butterfly, or to watch someone like Neggie turn 51 (tomorrow!) and thrive in sanctuary: making choices that was not allotted to her in her previous life.

Tomorrow is the Trifecta Jubilee, celebrating our sweet 16! I cannot believe it has been 16 years since the Cle Elum 7 arrived to the sanctuary or that Negra will already be turning 51 years young. But, lets not forget our sweet friend Terry who is turning 34 tomorrow! It will be quite the celebration! If you would like to help us celebrate, check out our Sweet Sixteen online auction.

I think it will come to no surprise that I personally love this painting, Jamie’s Boot by Cheryl Feng. I love how Cheryl captured Jamie! Place your bids today!
