Chimpanzee Sanctuary Northwest

Foxie & Grace play chase

July 24, 2011 by Jackie

We, obviously, have some especially lovable chimps around here, but when I witness super cute games like the one in the video below, I have a hard time deciding who I love more– the chimps or the caregivers.

The chimps are excellent at keeping our priorities straight. When Negra is ready for her nightbag, she is READY for her nightbag, and will let it be known that nothing will satisfy her until she gets it. Foxie is a good “prioritizer”, too. She will often toss us a troll right as we are getting ready to lock up at the end of the day. Perfect timing! She also frequently “stalls” us when we are cleaning. And her caregivers will pretty much do anything to appease, no matter how sweaty they get!

Garden enrichment

July 19, 2011 by Debbie

Jackie has been working pretty diligently on the best enrichment of all — the garden. It’s really great for the chimps to watch the plants grow, see us harvest their food, and then of course get to enjoy the delicious fresh produce! I have been helping her, too. Here’s us sifting the compost which we use as a growing medium for the plants. Just like Jackie said the other day, recycling at it’s finest!

Here is the view of the garden from the south side of the chimp house:

And here are some of our fruits and veggies that are doing great! Broccoli, onions, tomatoes, lettuce, and strawberries.

The chimps particularly like the fresh strawberries!

Kickin’ back

July 18, 2011 by Debbie

This afternoon the chimps all seem pretty relaxed and were taking naps. Jody and Foxie in particular seemed to just want to sit back and prop their legs up.

It’s break time

July 14, 2011 by Jackie

Jamie, Foxie, and Missy have been super playful all morning. The three of them played on top of the climbing structure in the outdoor area for at least an hour and have been chasing each other around the playroom and laughing hysterically the whole time. But everyone knows that in between play bouts, one must nap.

Tug-o-troll

July 12, 2011 by Debbie

Jamie and Foxie love to play. Today I caught them in an intense game of tug-o-war with a troll in their mouths.
