Enjoy some endive crunch ASMR from Jamie, Negra, and Burrito. These three are big fans of endives, and I’m a big fan of hearing them chew endives. Hope you are too!

Today was such a beautifully sunny day that we just HAD to do a lunch forage out on Young’s Hill. The grass is getting so lush and green that when Jamie’s group got access early in the morning, some of them almost skipped breakfast because eating grass was more enticing. When lunch time came, all group members sprinted outside fast and YES, even Neggie went out to grab all the carrots and chow that she could and then went inside to happily nest with her findings. Annie wore a head band around her waist, which we consider to be the official Spring time indicator, and she ate all the forage placed on the treat rock. Farmer Jo feasted inside the green house with as much produce she could possibly carry inside in one trip, and then went out for more! Jamie was very adamant on letting visiting crows know that today’s forage was not up for grabs, and then found all of the peppers that were put out in the forage. Burrito and Missy also enjoyed the forage by wandering all over the hill eating whatever they could find and also climbing almost all the structures on the lower side of the hill. If you ask me, today was the perfect for them and for all the caregivers. Sunshine is just an amazing mood boost for everyone 🙂

We have the BEST supporters ever! We get donations from all over the United States, and sometimes even from other countries, but this donation came from close by. A week ago I was visiting my friends’ parents in the Yakima area and noticed the massive pine cones they had on their backyard. My first thought was “how weird would they think I am if I ask for permission to take some of those with me?”. After explaining what enrichment is and how much it benefits the life of chimpanzees in captivity, I grabbed as many as I could and brought them in. They are now gathering more for us! On the video it is a bit hard to visualize the size of these pine cones, but once Dora grabs one it is evident that it is almost the size of her cute small head. All the chimps in Cy’s group were super excited about these and spent quite some time getting every last bit of peanut butter from them. This was such a popular item that I can’t wait to pick up some more for the rest of the chimps!

What a better way to start the weekend off than with a beautiful warm-ish blue sky day! Blue skies and sunny days bring out the best of everyone and at the chimp house it was no different. Cy’s group could be found most of the day relaxing and enjoying the coziness of their climate controlled green houses. If not out there, Cy and Gordo could be found requesting multiple games of chase with caregivers. They would see the other playing with a caregiver and come by to try to sway the caregiver away from that with very persuasive raspberries. If only we could divide in two and play with both at the same time!!! On the other side of the chimp house Burrito was stealing the show. He spent most of the morning playing with Jamie, then Jody, then Foxie. It was amazing to listen to their breathy pants while we cleaned, our preferred type of ASMR. Today was also extra fun for Burrito because “lots of paper” was today’s enrichment. Caregiver Anna decorated the playroom with a whole new roll of paper and Burrito had a blast with it. Watch today’s video for a glimpse of Burrito’s awesome day.

Today’s blog video features the Cool Chimp Club. The club has two chapters that meets in two separate locations, Jamie’s group meets in the green house and Cy’s group meets in the front rooms. Everyone in Cy’s group participated in this morning’s club meeting in the front rooms. Part of the agenda was “Foot Grabs”, and Willy B and Dora were happy to demonstrate how the topic is explored. After being done with that the point in the agenda, they moved to “Pokey Fingers Through the Caging” which Mave and Terry demonstrated. Sometimes meetings get sidetracked for very important reasons, like “Impromptu Grooming Sessions”. Important note: This club is a 100% inclusive and all 16 chimps are proud members.

Today’s video features nice and peaceful moments I came across around the sanctuary. Burrito was specially playful this morning, engaging with caregivers but also having a lengthy play session with Foxie. On the other side of the chimp house, Dora and Mave spent the morning grooming Honey B and while capturing the moment Willy B approached the camera to look at his reflection and further inspect his handsome smile. While this was happening, sweet Cy was catching up on his reading.
Speaking of, Cy’s 33rd birthday is on March 12th and we decided to partner up once again with EcoJoia to create “Cy’s Lucky 6 Book Club” tote bag and t-shirts!
