I Get by With a Little Help From my Friends

April 25, 2026 by Ellen Brady-McGaughey

The mood around the sanctuary has been more serious the past few weeks as we navigate Negra’s mobility challenges. Quality time with the chimpanzees is my antidote for the toughest of days, and I have been finding a lot of joy in the little moments with the chimps. In today’s blog video, come along for some of these moments of joy.

Bruce certainly helps, too!

Jenna pets Bruce.

Bruce takes a rest in Krissy’s lap.

Looks like a beautiful day to be hanging with your pals on the Bray. Love Gordo’s karate kick! Burrito and Annie were having a wild laugh fest! Missy and the Boss were not a deterrent. And thank you for always treating Negra like a queen. Warmed my heart to see her working her favorite enrichment toy. As you said, even in difficult times you are surrounded by so many precious moments of joy. Thanks for sharing a handful with us.

Bubba and Annie were playing like kids! That laughter! Jamie with the surprise water spit! At least it wasn’t her other choice of projectile… I was glad to see Neggie enjoying her peanut butter frisbees with such gusto. Even with her mobility issues, it’s clear she still enjoys all of her usual activities!
