Let’s start with some news. The owner of the West Coast Game Park Safari, where George lived before we provided a home for him last year, plead guilty to 47 criminal charges, 43 specifically for animal neglect. His sentencing is scheduled for July. You can read more about this development in several media stories, including this piece from OPB.
Now, let’s get to the charming subject of this blog post: Bruce!
Bruce is cat who has been frequenting the sanctuary grounds for several months. He seemed rather feral at first, but he’s been showing us his softer side the last couple of weeks.
Jenna took this photo of him snuggling up to Ellen the other day:
Yesterday, I sat down with him for the first time in his newly-friendly state.
We think he’s just waiting for the support building to be built so he can sit on our laps while we work.
If you’ve been an avid blog-follower, you might be wondering about Barn Kitty (B.K,), who has been an on-again, off-again sanctuary presence for more than a decade. We haven’t seen him in several months. Sometimes he’s away for a while and makes a return. Perhaps this time Bruce is filling his void on a more permanent basis.

Oh poor Barn Kitty, at that age, after winter, and hasnt been seen, I suspect he wont be back especially if another cat has moved into Barn Kittys territory. How sad.
Beian Tenny has been all over the news here. I truly hope he gets what he deserves! So happy George is living his best life with you! Bruce is adorable :grinning:
ooooooh. He’s beautiful! Those eyes. Wow. I hope he hangs around and becomes family. Can you just imagine him stumbling across the sanctuary with these huge black creatures he’s never seen before?
So glad to read about the criminal charges against that excuse for a human and to know that his abuses were taken seriously. And so happy for George and Jaguar Louie for their rescue and greatly improved lives. Once again, thanks to CSNW for absolutely everything you do.
As Jamie so aptly demonstrated in her PSA many years ago (8.11.2017), primates do not make good pets, let alone roadside zoo attractions. I am once again grateful that our George has much more suitable accommodations, and a new barn kitty for a next-door neighbor.
looks like Bruce may be a TNR kitty with his cropped ear.
Yes!
Wow. Brian Tenney pleads guilty to 47 charges (prosecutor has dropped 300 additional charges?!). I agree with Peta and hope he receives the full sentence. Seems as if 90 months in prison is getting off easy.
Hi Bruce, welcome to your new home! The word must be out. CSNW is the best refuge around. I hope Barn Kitty is just on a walk-about and will return soon, safe and sound. You may need to do some cat introductions to be sure BK and Bruce get along. 🙂
Some sad news perhaps for Barn Kitty. I hope new cat sticks and helps to keep Barn Kitty’s memories alive.
Happy to see young Bruce here, but indeed, I immediately thought, “Ehat about barn kitty!?”
Well, this guy gets a real name, anyway!
It reminds me of a friend (good friend’s cousin) in Argentina. She still lives in the big old country house she grew up in, a few miles outside of Mendoza (wine country). Her aunt and cousin Ricardo lived in a small house on the same property, almost side by side. Ricardo had a cat just like Bruce here; they simply called him “Negro”. Negro isn’t just the color black in Argentina; in both Argentina and the Dominican Republic, it means “honey” or “sweetie” (fitting for our Queen, right?). Anyway, I met the little guy, and witnessed how they would come home and just holler “Neeeeeegro!” and he would come running like a dog, happy tail at full mast! Sweet little cat, he was!
I hope they nail that Tenney jerk to the wall. What a dispicable human being. The way he mistreated the animals is sickening and I hope he gets serious prison time.
I’m glad that George and some of the other animals found safe refuges. It is too bad it took so long for the authorities to take action. One article I read mentuoned USDA were aware of violations all the way back to 2016. Sometimes justice is slow as well as blind.
The circle of life is working and as, sadly, Barn Kitty seems to have departed from CSNW, you are blessed with Bruce. And of course this charming feline will have certainly landed on his feet making a home at the sanctuary.
As for that despicable Brian Tenney, I hope he gets all he deserves. What goes around comes around.
