The Plum Tree Bandit

April 20, 2026 by J.B.

Someone had been stealing branches from the ornamental plum tree we planted last year at the bottom of the Bray. Our forensics team scoured the ground around the tree for footprints, hoping for a hit off our database, but there were none. The list of suspects was long.

Honey B had the motive.

Willy B had the means.

George was seen in the vicinity on multiple occasions.

And wouldn’t you know, Gordo couldn’t provide an alibi for last Saturday.

One thing was clear—we were dealing with a pro.

My guess is that this tree, kindly donated by volunteer Patti (and destroyed by Rayne), is not long for this world. So I figured I should get some photos while it’s in bloom.

Here’s Mave and Willy B grooming.

And Mave returning from a walk.

Mave invited me for our usual Monday afternoon walk to the top of the Bray today. This has become one of those little rituals that I look forward to each week. But later in the afternoon, I saw that she had set off again all by herself. The only thing better than being included is knowing that she has developed the confidence to do it alone.

It definitely points in Mave’s direction. Could she be the Plum Tree Bandit? ??:sparkling_heart:?

They’ve got Rayne on video, redhanded! Mave is innocent!

Sigh…yet another example of “When Animals Offend our Morals” that the Colber’ Repor’ used to expose.

Oh, Raynie, how could you? And so close to Earth Day! I blame Society…

You can’t blame a girl for wanting to do a little gardening. That Willy B is a bad influence, I fear.

So it’s a plum tree we saw in the video from April 18. Such a beautiful little tree! What a thoughtful gift for the chimps. But I did wonder how the blossoms survived! They look scrumptious. What chimp wouldn’t be tempted?!

I just love hearing about Mave waltzing about the Bray these days. While I am very proud of her, especially today hearing she chooses to explore all on her own, I hope Mave continues to invite you to accompany her. Something so sweet about you two enjoying your peaceful walks together. Lucky you.

If only we could make them understand that if they wait, they will have fruit hanging on that tree! Wouldn’t it be awesome to see them climbing the tree for fruit?!

Oh, I hope she continues to invite you along, JB. Lord knows she didn’t exactly win the roommate lottery.
Please tell Mave that I think her floof looks fabulous, impeccable.

Rayne has to learn how to disguise herself when shes up to no good. The orange ‘waist’band is a dead giveaway!!!

Bravo, Mave, going it alone can be challenging, but so rewarding too.

Oh Mave! After so many years, it’s just so amazing! That’s what happens when you have friends alongside you, encouraging you. When the nine were together. I’m so happy she continues to go out.
