Though the air might be chilly, the skies are blue, and for January, that’s really all we can ask for! As soon as the sun peeked through the clouds, Jamie’s group couldn’t resist soaking up some much needed Vitamin D. A little sunshine can do wonders, especially in the middle of winter!
Burrito, Annie, Foxie, and Missy were ready to get out and explore:
Burrito climbed up and enjoyed the view:
More of Burrito:
Missy adventured past the path and into the snow:
Foxie came out with her doll to see what was happening:
Jamie went out onto Young’s Hill for a quick lap and then tried to get some snow to go. Unfortunately, this snow is pretty hard and compacted so it wasn’t very fruitful:
If you’re looking for ways to support the chimps, our Wish List is a fantastic way to make a direct impact on their care!

Enjoy the blue skies and then back inside to the cozy warm nests!
I like how you put some plastic sheeting around three sides of the bottom of a climbing structure to provide a wind break. I wonder if the chimps take advantage of that at all.
That’s known as “Negra’s Cabin”. They did it bc they noticed she didn’t seem to like the wind coming off the mountain. Burrito likes to go there bc they used to leave Neggie’s favorite foods there during a forage, so he associates it with yummy stuff.
Yay for a vitamin D day! Amazing all the adventurous activity one can have on Young’s Hill. Patrolling, climbing, taking in the view from up on high, spying on the neighbors from up on high, walking with your favorite doll, running off path and exploring in your own way, walking with your bestie caregiver, foraging for a frosty bite, being together with your family while doing your own thing.….. OR…..sleeping inside in your favorite densely blanketed nest while dreaming about the sweet green grass sprouting on Young’s Hill. 🙂
No matter what the weather is like there’s always something for the chimps to explore and hold their interest.(Sorry Jamie missed out on his snow to go). Loved the way Foxie was out and about but keeping hold of her “baby”. It’s quite a snowy adventure for everyone and a nice thought that afterwards-after a tasty lunch, no doubt- the chimps can settle down for a nap in their warm cosy nests. Wish I was there!
How do they do in the cold, can the stay out there for a while? Other than fluffy Mave they don’t appear to have thick hair/fur!
