Many thanks to long-time friend and supporter of the chimpanzees, Donna Hughes for sponsoring this day of sanctuary in memory and celebration of her sister, Doreen Hughes, and their special day:
“Remembering Doreen today, on our birthday. Always a bittersweet day for me, but Sponsoring The Day always makes me happy. Doreen LOVED all of the chimps at CSNW and the people who care for them. It was one of the best days EVER the day we visited in person. So, Happy Birthday, Doreen!!! You are missed every day. I know you have our dog and cats on your lap above. I have a new friend, Pumpkin, on mine. Let’s celebrate with Foxie and Friends!”
Happy Birthday to you and Doreen, Donna, from all of us here at the sanctuary! We will always hold the memories of your visit with joy and we truly appreciate you both being part of the chimpanzees’ lives for so many years. We’re thinking of you and Pumpkin today and envisioning you whooping it up, Foxie-style, in whatever way feels best. Maybe a pirouette or two thrown in. 🙂
Another birthday, Donna, looks like the sun is peeking out for you! Thanks for supporting the chimps another year!
(PS, a friend of mine had 2 cats, a black cat and a purebred but rescued Siamese). Then a little orange guy with cauliflower ears started showing up on her back deck. Too skittish to hang with her, but happy to eat whatever she put out. Winter was coming, it’s Minnesota, so she put out a box and blankets for him. Then, shortly before leaving for a month long work assignment in Italy, she took him in. She calls her orange-flavored son Pumpkin, too. And the funny thing is that her other two love to play in her huge garden, under her watchful eye, due to coyotes, eagles, haeks and owls. But Pumpkin has shown no desire to go outside ever again! If you haven’t seen the shorts by Renus Delph on YouTube, he has 3, but one is an orange flavored son that he jokes about, pretty funny).
LOL, Linda. Thank you for telling me about your friend with the orange cat. At least that Pumpkin is orange! My Pumpkin has some orange streaks in her fur…SOME…lol..she is a rescue and the young daugher at the time named her Pumpkin as she liked the Pumpkin spice lattes!! Love sponsoring a day to honor Doreen. Love these photos of the Foxie One!!!
Happy Birthday, Donna, and thank you so much for sponsoring another day of Sanctuary in memory of your sister, Doreen! Such a perfect way to honor her memory. It seems as if I was just reading about your sponsorship in honor of Doreen’s birthday from last year, and I am pretty sure I remember the one the year before THAT as well. Time really flies as I get older. I hope you have a wonderful day and that beautful memories of you and Doreen help you celebrate your shared birthday, even if you are apart for now.
Thank you Jennie! time does go by quickly …faster ever year I do agree that there is no better way to honor someone than to sponsor a day for the chimps we do good, and we get to ee these wonderful photos of our friends, who are living their best lives!
Pumpkin is a lovely name! :kissing_heart: Thank you, Donna and happy birthdays to yous!:birthday::champagne_glass::bouquet:

Thank you all. It’s true, time marches on very quickly …..It’s fantastic to see The Foxie One in these photos. She is so wonderful!! Truly an honor to Sponsor A Day and help all the chimps as I honor Doreen. I know that Doreen is loving this. As am I. Foxie!!!!!
I remember seeing photos of you and Doreen visiting the sanctuary, seems like yesterday. What a treasured day to hold in your heart. It’s wonderful that you sponsor this day every year. This way, we all get to celebrate your birthday together! I bet these photos of Foxie brought a smile to your face. I’m guessing Doreen is smiling at them too.
Kathleen, Yes, these amazing photos certainly did make me smile. I know Doreen is smiling, too. Our visit to the Sanctuary was one of the great days of our lives! Thank you so much!
Donna, Foxie is so fortunate to have Doreen and you as her friends. That Doreen and you are twins must have fascinated Tiny. Thank you for having been, and remaining part of Foxie’s life.
Thank you, Tobin. Doreen and I adore Foxie, and all of the chimps. These photos are so wonderful! We are all so lucky that CSNW shares the chimps’ lives with us. I love the blog, the photos!!
Happy Birthday Donna and Doreen!
