Jamie – Then and Now

September 28, 2008 by J.B.

In the lab, Jamie plucked the hair from her belly, possibly from stress or frustration, but more likely due to sheer boredom. She has such an active mind, and it is painful to imagine what she went through day after day such an impoverished environment. Here’s a photo of her on Day 2 of her new life in the sanctuary – if you look closely, you’ll notice the tattoo across her chest (522 – her lab I.D. number):

The moment she arrived at the sanctuary, the plucking stopped. The hair grew back in on her belly and became much thicker overall. Thankfully, the tattoo is getting harder to see. Here are a couple of photos taken this morning:

It’s heartwarming to know that these wonderful creatures are going to be able to live out the rest of their lives with dignity and in comfort. The work you are all doing for these chimps is amazing and inspirational!
The seven of them are all looking so great — I’m sure Jamie will benefit from all that newly grown hair with winter on it’s way!

I loe these before and after photos, Diana. Such concrete evidence that what you are all doing and providing for our seven is positive. How wonderful.

Thanks for the photos of Jamie’s improvement. It must feel so rewarding to be able to see the differences that you are making in all the chimps lives. I get a warm fuzzy all the way down to my toes just thinking about it. Way to go guys!!

To see that little bare belly….and then to see the pictures of her with her beautiful, shiny black hair & healthy skin color!! What an amazing contrast!! She looks SO MUCH healthier!! It’s just WONDERFUL!! 🙂 Thank you to all of you, once again, for all you’ve done for our special chimps!!
