Chimp ID: Missy

October 24, 2013 by Elizabeth

We’re continuing our series of blog posts on chimpanzee identification today with Missy. (If you missed the posts about Annie, Burrito, Foxie, Jamie, or Jody, click on their names.)

Missy is the resident athlete and daredevil, and she usually looks like this:

or like this:

If you catch her in a still moment, you’ll notice that she has a white chin and a distinctive white splotch on the left side of her face above her lip:

She has a short, stocky body. Here you can see that she’s significantly smaller than Jamie:

and Jody:

Missy doesn’t have much of a neck; sometimes it looks like her head sits right on her shoulders:

And of course, she’s often playing with her best friend Annie:

Love the total joy on her face when she’s bipedal on the firehose. What sanctuary is all about!

She’s got a lot of years to make up for being in constant motion! Love all the photos but especially the ones of her playing with Annie! Thanks for sharing! πŸ˜‰

I’m behind on catching up with your blog so imagine my total surprise and delight to discover MISSY as the newest “ID Girl”! As her “friend and sponsor” this was so much fun to read. Prior to seeing all this I had just been reading about Missy on your “Sippin’ for the Seven” page (“Missy in the Bamboo Forest” necklace is just beautiful!). I did not know about her beginnings with you and how you almost lost her. My heart just bursts knowing that this power-ball of energy now has a second chance at life thanks to all of you.

Missy is amazing. I have her photo in a prominent place and I look at her each and every day. In another life I would be at your side, working-volunteering-enriching the lives of these delightful beings. Since I volunteer at a “pit bull” dog rescue I draw endless parallels between the chimps care and the dogs I spend time with (Many of these dogs have their very rooms, not a typical shelter by any means). As you stated in one of your blogs, to spend time with an animal and offer love and enrichment is a gift β€” not just to the animal but to ourselves as caregivers!

Missy, you go girl! Know I am at your side all the time! Enjoy life to the fullest. You are my inspiration. ; )

Absolutely awed by all these pics. I learned about this great sanctuary when I lived in WA – and though I’ve moved across the country to GA, I love checking in with the seven. This sanctuary is gorgeous and everyone does such a fantastic job to ensure the seven enjoy a wonderful life after their sad time in the labs. Thank you!!
