And what a beautiful day it has been. It’s 75 degrees and sunny, the grass is lush and green, the wild balsamroot and lupine are flowering, and our Greenhouse fig tree has produced fruit! One fruit, to be exact. What’s the best way to cut a fig into 16 equal portions?
Annie spent the afternoon keeping Negra company, though after a raucous morning of being bullied by Burrito, Annie was just as much a beneficiary of the arrangement.
The chimps largely tuned out the construction activity next door, despite the train of semis dumping loads of boulders for a retaining wall throughout the day. I thought that George would be more concerned about all the noise and the people, but he’s taking it all in stride so far (playing with Dora in the Front Rooms as I write this).

Love to hear that George is expanding his circle of friends! I saw that one fig! Its gonna take a while!
I feel like The Queen should have it!
What a beautiful day, indeed! Everyone outside together, but each in their own space. Together alone.
Thank you so much for doing these videos for us so frequently. I know it takes time to edit them, but it really makes us feel like we have some sense of the day today there, and it really makes us feel like we get to know them!
You’re growing figs!?? How about an article on all of the foods that you grow yourself to feed the chimps? and/or things you plan to plant in the future that not only provide even more beauty, but feed the chimps. I know you have berries and sunflowers, and now a fig (LOL). What else?
There were apple and pear trees when they moved in there, IIRC. I think they have a few grapes as well and are growing some bamboo for the chimps, or at least they try to, but the chimps go after it. oh, and of course— TOMATOES!
What a spectacular day! Paradise. I love seeing Annie and Missy hanging together up high on the structure. The perfect clubhouse for two old friends. Likewise for Cy and Rayne. Wowza, what a view. Fabulous closeups of Neggie enjoying her leek, Willy B, and Mave! Not only was Mave upright, she just gave us the best selfie mode interaction that I’ve ever seen. That was hysterical and totally unexpected from our usually shy Mave.
It did appear that the chimps were totally unfazed by the construction and commotion. But I’m guessing and maybe I’m way off base, that you, J.B., were bursting with excitement over the start of the construction. Please continue to keep us updated as things progress.
