In honor of Jody’s birthday, from Tobin

May 10, 2026 by Katelyn 7 Comments

Many thanks to Tobin for sponsoring today’s second day of sanctuary in honor of beautiful Jody!

“In honor of Jody’s birthday and in celebration of her life, I have invited the readers of the CSNW blog as well as Jody’s caretaker friends to share a favorite memory of her. For myself, it is difficult to choose just one recollection. However, I remember a video from 2.6.2018 where Mama Jo, apparently sensing that Neggie had wandered outside without a proper winter coat, went out to corral her friend back indoors into the warmth. Something about that short video – least of all Jody’s drooping lower lip and elf ears – seems to demonstrate what a conscientious den mother she was. I welcome other people share a fond memory of our dear friend. – Tobin”

There are so many fun memories of Jo: her looking the caregivers in the eye as she shredded more blankets: “yeah, I did it. So what?” The dinosaur growl as she munched on pumpkin while watching to make sure everyone cane in off the hill on Thanksgiving 2018, the photos with lilacs and with the Christmas Tree from 2015. She was so photogenic!
But the ones I always go back to are her removing blankets from the doorway at JB’s request, after they had shifted (avec nest), and her building a nest in that front room, and answering JB’s “Good night, Jo.” with a reciprocating wish in Chimpanese.
Thank you, Tobin, for celebrating Jojo all year long.

I remember that video. Jody made an epic nest out of all those blankets!

Jody was a beautiful creature, inside and out. May she rest in the love and light of her creator. She was an angel among us.

What could be better than two of Jody’s favorite people sponsoring her today! Thank you, Tobin. I know how much Jody meant to you. There is no doubt that Jody capturing the gigantic Jamieween pumpkin is a favorite memory of mine. As is the day she forced through the entry way of the greenhouse, one gigantic bush. That was priceless beyond words. But I suppose my very favorite memory of Jody is just seeing her lying on her back, legs and hands akimbo, while she soaks in the sun in her little green turtle sandbox.

I remember Jody dragging that huge bush into the doorway onto Young Hill, and then watching seemingly take amusement watching Missy, Annie, and Jamie contorting themselves to pass through the portal.

Jody, I surmise, had a taste for benign mischief. I remember the video from 12.18.2018. The rain was falling atop the Greenhouse roof, and Neggie needed much persuasion (a bowl of peanuts, a song-and-dance from her caregivers) to emerge from beneath her nest and shift to the front room. Eventually, Her Majesty vacated the Greenhouse so that it could be cleaned by the caregivers…only to have Jody immediately enter in her absence. Those two had to have been pulling their prank in tandem…Dare I say, Jody’s dropping lower lip betrayed her conspiracy.

Thank you Tobin for loving Jody.
One of my favorites is this one:
All 7 Cle Elum ( the other ones were not here yet ), One day they got the enrichment gift of their favorite thing; Jody’s was hay to make a bed with.
Jody was very happy, putting tufts of hay all around and underneath her and wriggeling to see if that was it.
No, stil not good enough, she kept on going.
But then after she had put just about 3 spigs of hay under her back it was done; Perfect.
I love her need for perfection.
