The Hustle and Bustle

March 4, 2026 by Kelsi

The chimp house is a busy place! It’s fun, energetic, and can tend to get a little noisy. From the start of the morning we are on the go- prepping food, serving meals, shifting doors, cleaning enclosures, cleaning toys, making enrichment, washing dishes, doing laundry, making chow bags, making night bags, doing more laundry, staff and interns coming in and out throughout the day, all the while chimps are playing, laughing, grooming, maybe screaming, and nesting!

I know, it’s a lot! That is why when Jamie asks you to go on a walk, it’s really nice to slow down and be in the moment with her. So, if you have had a busy day like we had, join me on a walk with Jamie and Burrito.

Of course, there are some bonus photos too!

Jamie was probably humming an old song, “Those boots are made for walking and that’s just what we’ll do.” Thanks for sharing your walk with us, Kelsi.

Funny, I was picturing something with a whip crack, like “Rawhide” 🙂

Nice to see ‘the odd couple’ enjoying their walk, and the elegant twirl from Burrito! Do any of them climb the trees any more after the initial novelty of having access to them?

Im glad you kept Bubba from chickening out, with a chicken hawk overhead. I hope The Boss approved of the new boots’ performance!

Thanks Kelsi! Hard to beat a walk around Youngs Hill with Jamie and goofball Burrito. I think he was trying to get a laugh out of you with those spins. I find comfort knowing Jamie still patrols the property, steady and determined on her mission to secure the perimeter.

I didn’t even know I needed a peaceful walk this morning, but I surely enjoyed it. It is so wonderful to witness
the expanse and freedom our chimp friends have. Amazing.
