Installation of Jody Statue in the Memorial Garden

December 7, 2025 by Diana

We miss Jody very much, and we are so glad that we now have a beautiful statue of her thanks to donors and artist Austin Smith.

We won’t likely have statues made of all of the chimpanzees as they pass, but it’s fitting to have one of Jody. She was always looking out for her group and now she watches over all of us.

What a beautiful tribute to a beautiful soul. I know Jody watches closely over her family from the other side.

What a lovely memorial. She was a beautiful chimp, and her statue does her justice. I remember, sadly, her passing, and am gratified to see her everlasting tribute. The video clips of her in history made me smile, as I remember most of them, especially of her struggle to bring that tree inside. This is all further evidence of the absolute care and respect given these lovely animals that have had such a painful history. Thank you!

This statue looks just like Jody. Absolutely beautiful. It’s womderful to have her back. The artist did an amazing job of capturing her essence. What an amazing chimp she was! What a lovely thought to have her looking over the Memorial Garden.

Jody. Sigh…..my heart is weighted with emotion. The Memorial Garden is lovely. All of it. Jody’s sculpture holding vase with wisteria made me smile as it reminded me of Jody always with arms full natural gatherings. I love that Jody’s family came out to supervise the placement of the statue. Thank to everyone who helped make this peaceful garden possible. I would love to visit someday.

The drawing of Jody is beautiful. I hope there is a very special place for it somewhere within the sanctuary.

Thank you, Austin Smith, for this beautiful gift of remembrance.

What a wonderful remembrance for Jody, such. a beautiful soul. I really like the whole garden. What a wonderful place. So thoughtful.
It is a symbol of all chimpanzees who have had the life that she has who finally found a place of love, freedom, family, and peace.
