We continue to make progress in introducing George to Cy’s group. This past week, George spent the day with Lucky (and Cy). As George navigates living with other chimpanzees, he is also learning that sometimes, he might have to share. See today’s blog video to watch how Lucky and George (with help from Cy!) navigated a conflict over their shared love of paper, and how they spent the rest of their day together.
Don’t forget, Willy B’s birthday is just around the corner! He’ll be turning 35, and will be celebrating with as many of his favorite bouncy toys as we can provide him with. If you’d like to purchase a bouncy toy for Willy’s birthday, see our chewy and Amazon wish lists, and look for the Ruff Dawg toys!

Oh, poor Lucky Lou, chased outside and it was raining, too!
Cy, as always, switch on!
It seemed, after they went back inside, like George was asking Lucky for permission to take some paper.
But he’s still not as confident with her as he is with Cy.
Between these 2 and Honey B, you’re going to need a bigger bolt (of craft paper)!
Thanks, Ellen!
Oh my, Cy deserves an appointment to the UN as a peace negotiator. The poor guy is going to need a vacation after overseeing all of George’s introductions to the other chimps.
He’s giving up his magazine reading time, like a good dad putting down his newspaper to go see what the ruckus is about with the kids.
Yes, I was thinking I hope they pay him enough for all that hard work he never asked for……
Well, that was certainly a very interesting video and a fine display of three very different personalities at work (or play). George is sure learning that he has to share some of those things he might like for himself. At first neither George or Lucky took any backward steps in wanting that paper, but it was reassuring to see Cy step in with that calming influence. I loved the bit where a very lovely grooming session took place between those three darlings and peace seemed to prevail for a while.Yes, George is really into the rough and tumble of his pals learning their ways Thanks for sharing yet another step in George’s progress.
Thanks Ellen. I’m happy to see George working on conflicit resolution alot quicker than he use to, so there’s progress. Good news from the CDC today, announcing they are phasing out its monkey experiments. Hopefully other agencies and universities will soon follow and we can start building sanctuaries for the the abused monkeys.
Good news about the CDC decision but, this decision will affect studies involving some 200 macaques and the fate of the animals is unknown. This is worrisome.
On the same topic, a new documentary, “30,000 Monkeys in Our Backyard”, created by Species Unite and produced by NAVS, is now available on NAVS site.

I hope Cy receives a big bonus for the holidays. He’s been working overtime! 🙂
This was all very interesting to watch. However I found the ending best of all. You could actually see the three communicating to each other. Lucky enters and George runs behind Cy. Lucky scratches and either Cy or Lucky (?!) groans. Then Cy directs George to play with Lucky as if giving the “all clear” go ahead. Seemed like a lot going on in the brief exchange! Happy ending between Lucky and George. We could all learn from wise and gentle Cy.
Thank you, Ellen. This video was an excellent way to see the evolution of the chimps interactions.
Things look hopeful for George et. al.
Cy is amazing!
i so love watching George grow in his relationships, and especially how Cy provides guidance and envouragement to all parties involved. what a good leader he is!
