Rest, Relaxation, and…Pomegranates?

November 28, 2025 by Ellen Brady-McGaughey

After a food and fun filled Thanksgiving celebration yesterday, the chimps are enjoying a laid-back day today. It is overcast and chilly, which has me feeling pretty envious of Negra who has spent much of her day in a very cozy blanket nest. Jamie too was tucked into an elaborate nest in an adjacent room as she supervised Anna and I cleaning her playroom. After a relaxing morning, we added some excitement to the day by serving whole pomegranates with lunch. Enjoy a photo series of Dora savoring every last bit of her pomegranate!

I hope you are also able to rest and relax (and enjoy a pomegranate of your own, if that’s your thing!) as you recuperate from your holiday festivities!

Dora sure makes her pomegranate look yummy.

Oh Dora! Talk about savoring the flavor! That last photo is the best.

I love the middle photos. Dora’s eyes usually look half opened; something about that pomegranate had them opened wide!
    Happy day after Thanksgiving, all!

Ugh every time I see a pomegranate I remember how much trouble I got in as a kid. We had a pomegranate tree in the side yard, and it stained our clothes really bad! and while the seeds are wonderful, I seem to recall that white flesh is so bitter! I don’t know how they eat it

    Dora is spectacular here!

I’ve never had one, other than the seeds (the one ingredient in a “superfood” salad that could be the cause of the reaction it gives me). But I grew up riding a friend’s horses through my uncle’s vineyards, and we would throw grapes at each other. Purple Concords. Mom used to get so mad. ..
