This afternoon, weather-wise, was kind of perfect. The air was still. It was overcast, but not cold. For Jamie, it was walking weather. She invited me to join her on a stroll (with me outside of the fence, of course).
Soon, Burrito and Missy joined.
In the distance, in the Bray outdoor enclosure, I could see a figure watching. Perhaps waiting…
I was pretty sure I knew who it was, but I went around to get a better look. Sure enough, Honey B was having some alone time outside.
I may have been over interpreting Jamie’s behavior, but it seemed to me that Jamie was encouraging Honey B to walk in parallel with us.
Even with Jamie’s friendly pauses, looking Honey B’s way, Honey B didn’t join the patrol.
She did explore more of the Bray, though.
Jamie frequently stopped, looking into the distance in the same way Honey B was. I felt they were spending time together, just yards apart.
At one point, Honey B craned her neck to see who was coming out of the Chute to join her.
It was Mave!
It wasn’t that long ago that both Honey B and Mave refused to go outside.
Today, with the stillness and calm, I felt honored to be a witness to their enjoyment of this space they have. Where they can roam. Or sit and quietly contemplate.

This was a lovely post. So peaceful. Jamie and her three sidekicks…Burrito, Missy, and you.
You wrote : “It wasn’t that long ago that both Honey B and Mave refused to go outside.” Before I read that passage I had stopped to think about how unusual it was to see both Honey B and Mave outside! Relaxing no less. I was thinking of how they held on to the familiar comfort of the inside for such a long time that seeing them today, independently hanging out on the Bray, took me by surprise. And to think Jamie may have enjoyed the company of a fourth companion on her stroll was sweet. Just imagine the stories and ideas those two would share if they could just put their heads together!
I felt that was what was running through Jamie’s head: “You and me, Honey B. We could have gone places, kid.”
I am so proud to be one of Jamie’s sidekicks. Thank you for putting it that way, Kathleen! Perhaps Jamie is recognizing that she and Honey B have some traits in common. I do think it’s lovely that they can still get to know each other by at-a-distance observing – and we know those two are VERY observant!
Thanks for sharing a beautiful day in such warm companionship – quiet contemplation indeed – I loved the photos of Jamie, Honey B and Mave all in fine form enjoying their present moments with you. That spectacular Pacific Northwest landscape was also very easy on the eye ?
Oh lucky you Diana, to be asked by Jamie to go for a stroll :revolving_hearts:
I will never take those invitations for granted!
Thank you for this wonderful experience you shared! I’ll admit to a bit of jealousy for the peaceful time with these great folks, but then I’m glad in these hectic times for an opportunity to stroll with them-thru the photos and your comments!
Rosalie, your jealously is a good reminder for me how precious these moments are. Thank you for joining along.
So peaceful to judst “BE” together with your friends.
And I am happy to see Mavis going outside and do her thing….( just hanging ).
Wow! What?? I knew Honey B was at last going outside with the group at times. But to see her choose to go outside all by herself. I was awed. And then shocker – Mave did too!!
What is happening?? It’s like Twilight Zone! Mind blown.
Isn’t it great!?
